Songs which make you cry

Holding back the Years by Simply Red always starts me blubbing.

I absolutely love all kinds of music, from 50/60's, the popular classics, Russell Watson, many, many more, and favourites of the husband that I lost back in 2007, Jim Reeves, Roy Orbison, Johnny Cash, so many, Andre Rui is another, MUSIC IS EVERYTHING ........ ESPECIALLY LIVE

but I can easily cry, bawl my eyes out "so to speak" at all the music shared with my late husband. Life can be Cruel

I think Sometimes When We Touch is one of the most beautiful songs ever written.

We are going to see Mack and Mabel in a couple of weeks daffy. I love Howard Keel's version of that as well as your choice.

Two more achingly sad but beautiful songs that I have just listened to again on You Tube. Passing Strangers by Billy Eckstine and Sarah Vaughn and You Don't Bring Me Flowers by Barbra Streisand and Neil Diamond.

I miss the hungry years, Niel Sadarka. If you don't know this song, catch it on YouTube. The words are achingly sad.

I like the Harry Belafonte version of Scarlet Ribbons and how could I have firgotten Sometimes when we touch!

So much music moves me to tears. Children singing especially. I heard a version of Panis Angelicus with a children's choir and Russell Watson which had me in bits a few years ago. In fact he gives me goosebumps just listening to his voice, never mind what he sings!

downtoearth walking through town the other day I heard 'Fields of Gold' and disintegrated when I saw the music was coming from a charity stall for childhood cancer.

loopylou I had Eva Cassidy's 'Somewhere over the Rainbow' down for my funeral but in May listened to it during a good friend's funeral and I honestly don't know how I held it together!

It seems so many of us have music which brings back memories of our dads. Mine is 'Wishing you were somehow here again' from Phantom of the Opera. I'm crying now.

In my secret life by Leonard Cohen and In dreams by Roy Orbison and Piano Man by Billy Joel make me feel tearful!

Almost anything by Karen carpenter, Whitney Huston , love letters straight from my heart can't remember her name but beautiful voice x

Oh yes graninthemist Boz Scaggs High Sierra always has me in floods of tears too. I have it marked as my funeral song. The words are so beautiful.

So much music resorts me to tears but 4 Last Songs by Strauss, O Magnum Mysterium by Morten Lauridsen and In the Bleak Mid Winter take top places. I couldn't listen to any of my favourite music for at least 2 years after DH died; I was a complete mess if I did.

Scarlet Ribbons by Jim Reeves or Val Doonican comes to mind immediately because my Dad sang it to me as a little girl. So many others too though and it can depend on my mood.

Just thought of a few more - Mary Hopkin singing Those were the days and Charles Aznavour singing La Boheme, which are both on the theme of good times long gone. Faure's Requiem I Paradisum never fails to make me weep because it's so beautiful. I would like it played at my funeral (not too soon, I hope!)

Vincent by Don McClean always sets me off and anything by a Welsh Male Voice choir. (I'm a Welsh exile) and, of course, the Welsh National Anthem at the start of the rugby

" Abide With Me" and "Danny Boy" always bring a lump to my throat and a tear to my eye.... so do some Christmas carols. My dad passed away two days before Christmas 1993 and the evening before he died he played a new cd of carols he`d got as he wanted to get into the festive mood as he wrapped the presents he`d bought for his new great grandson... I still find it hard to hear O Come All Ye Faithful ...

For the Good Times still makes me cry after being divorced for 31 years. So does Slipping through my Fingers (and if you go way back, The Special Years)
About 3 months ago a busker in Durham who was also a good guitar player, sang Mr Tambourine Man and I cried for what is long gone.

It's just the tunes that get me feeilng emotional not the words at all.

"Everything I Own" by Bread. Have always loved this song but since my mum died three months ago, find it impossible to listen to without weeping.
