What time do you go to bed?

It's so dark at the moment I'm tucked up no later than 9:30, lights out at 10. Is this unnaturally early!? My OH told me he'd rather sleep when he's dead (he will happily watch sport/a film till the wee hours).

I usually go up to bed anytime between 1.30 and 3am. We don`t have our tea till about 7.30pm, then if there`s anything on TV that I want to see, there`s never much, I watch that, then switch my laptop on, come on here and other forums till I`m ready for bed, with a break about 10 to 10.30 for a drink. If there`s ironing to do, I put the laptop away about midnight and do the ironing, then I`ll read for a few minutes before going up to bed. I get up in the morning about 8.30.

When I stop watching tv I have a look on here, ditto Twitter, read an online newspaper or two, then go up to bed and read. And wish I had gone to bed earlier.

It usually gets round to close on midnight when I eventually put the light out. I get a better night's sleep like that.

What do you late to bed GNs 'do' in the evenings?

Well, perhaps watch a bit of tv if there is anything on, knit, read the paper, phone a friend if it's not too late, go on GN, make a cup of decaf tea. Sometimes I put a load of washing on.
I thought when the clocks went back I would be able to reset my time clock which has been awry since we came back from down under, but I still go to bed late and then read until about 12.30 or 1 am. I wake up about 8.

I would like to be up with the lark at 6 am and do all my housework by 9 am but have somehow never managed it since I retired, unless we have to go somewhere very early.

Well, loopy, I can't speak for anyone else but I do watch some tv programmes, potter about a bit (I even put a new curtain rail up earlier this evening!), catch up on emails, get on top of the washing-up and of course look in on Gransnet!

I would never do actual housework in the evenings, and don't do ironing anyway, but I do like to read in bed, when I eventually get there!

Your DD is very lucky to have you to proof read stillhere. My DD's papers are so complex I generally can't even understand the title let alone the content!

It's lovely you can support your DD while she studies, so much easier now than just by phone when mine were studying. She must find it hard to fit it all, in having little ones.

You catch up in the evenings with your DGCs as well, my little one's time is around 6.30, before he goes to bed. He was very seriously carrying on a conversation with me earlier, translated by DS because it flitted between a two year old's version of English, Italian and Mandarin...... I think most of it was about his many friends at nursery, bless him!

DBH and I rarely watch the same programmes. He goes to bed earlier than me, then I watch the ones I have recorded. I am knitting him a jumper as a surprise, so I do some then. I stay in contact with my DCs on facebook most evenings and we message each other and chat. DD works and has two small DCS, but is also in her final year of studying Law and late evenings are the only time she has to study. It became a habit to stay up and just be there, to keep her going when she gets down. Probably four nights a week. It will feel very odd when this final year is over.

Sadly none of the stuff I have proof-read for her has stayed in my memory.

What do you late to bed GNs 'do' in the evenings?

I find television boring, I fidget and annoy DH (if he hasn't already fallen asleep on the sofa), the thought of doing housework or ironing in the evening doesn't enthralled me....

I work nearly full time and am tired by the evening thlhmm

Maggiemaybe Tue 27-Oct-15 20:04:49

Lona, DH is a Family Guy fanatic. He must know every episode by heart, but never tires of watching them again.

Maggiemaybe Tue 27-Oct-15 20:02:57

Usually around 11.30 to midnight, then I like to read for half an hour or so (though I'm sometimes out like a light two minutes later with the book slamming onto my face).

I've recently developed the annoying habit of waking up at 6ish, though, which I only need to do 2 days a week. So I'm going to try going up a bit earlier, to see if I still wake up at the same time.

stillhere Tue 27-Oct-15 19:57:21

About 11, then read until 12. Sometimes however DD will send me a boring bit of law essay to proofread for her just as I was about to go - in which case it can be 1am before I can get to sleep.

loopylou Tue 27-Oct-15 19:52:42

I'm definitely an early to bed individual, usually in bed by 9.30, read for half an hour or so. I'm awake by 6am, up soon after in the summer but I do struggle more with dark mornings.
I've never been a person who liked staying up late, I rarely watch television and I prefer to read whilst snuggled up in bed.

TwiceAsNice Tue 27-Oct-15 19:44:19

Usually between 10-30 to 11pm. Sometimes I go straight to sleep if I'm really tired but usually read for a bit

merlotgran Tue 27-Oct-15 19:30:16

We go to bed around 11 and read for about half an hour. We're both good sleepers so don't normally stir until 7 when the dogs want to go out.

I don't mind staying up later if there's something I want to watch on the telly but DH usually falls asleep in the chair.

janeainsworth Tue 27-Oct-15 19:21:25

In bed around 11 -11.30 (make up already off & teeth cleaned and flossed wink) read for about half an hour, light off 11.30-midnight. Yet not to use the computer after 8.30. Any variation in this and I won't sleep well.

Ana Tue 27-Oct-15 19:21:13

I can't believe how early some of you go to bed! shock although it's understandable if there are health issues, of course.

I tend to go at around 11, as I always have done - sometimes a bit earlier, sometimes a bit later.

rosesarered Tue 27-Oct-15 19:16:20

Very,very, late!

Lona Tue 27-Oct-15 19:15:42

Usually go up about 11pm, make up off and into bed, then I watch a couple of episodes of Family Guy (don't ask me why because I've seen them all over and over!) and then I'm out like a light!

hildajenniJ Tue 27-Oct-15 19:13:53

Since starting my early morning cleaning job, my getting up time is 03:00, therefore I like to be in bed before 20:00 if possible. I often do not go to sleep for an hour or two later but I like to be snuggled and cosy anyway. My DH works until 22:00 and sleeps in the other room so as not to disturb me.

tanith Tue 27-Oct-15 19:11:54

I go to bed when I'm tired, thats anytime after 9 usually 10:30 ish sometimes I'll read , sometimes watch the news or sometimes just sleep.. I'm always awake around 6:30 but only get up early in the Summer in Winter I will make a cuppa and read till around 8.

NanKate Tue 27-Oct-15 19:11:03

About 8.30 I pop a hottie in the bed and quickly climb in to warm my toes.

I then do the following in no particular order

Remove make up
Do today's Sudoku
Read a chapter of my book
Check Gransnet
Check Facebook
Look things up on a Internet
Watch catch up on IPad or Bedroom TV
Get up clean teeth and go to loo
Settle down about 10.15 with my radio and earpiece to drown out my tinnitus.
Get up 6.00 to 6.30 for a cuppa and go back to bed till 7.30

AlieOxon Tue 27-Oct-15 18:43:23

I take my pills at nine, put the PC off, tidy up and go up, but I read until about 11 and am usually awake for over an hour at about 3, which is really annoying! Get up 9-ish for the next pills.....

wotanuisanceABC123 Tue 27-Oct-15 18:40:51

I go to bed at 6pm and read and watch tv until 1.30. Crazy but comfortable! Nowhere to go anyway.

wotanuisanceABC123 Tue 27-Oct-15 18:37:57

I go to bed at 6pm to read and watch tv until about 1.30. Crazy, I know but comfortable .

apricot Tue 27-Oct-15 18:24:13

I go between 9 and 10, fall straight to sleep and get up between 5 and 6. I don't have to, that's just my natural pattern.
