Do you think you're still 'attractive'?

I'm not the looker I once was, but I've still got it ( I think? ) grin

I think Gransnet is a good mixture of all subjects, light hearted and serious.

I do get chatted up in Italy, but doesn't everyone? God bless those kind and randy Italians!

I did once say to DH in Sicily that a young man had clicked his tongue appreciatively as he walked past me. DH replied that he thought it was his shoes squeaking. grin

Aaargh! I joined gransnet because I thought it was for mature people who wanted to discuss deeper and more important issues than 'Am I still attractive'. Was I wrong? No wonder young girls are obsessed with their looks if their grandmothers are too.

I once said to a colleague that it was strange how only some people were photogenic.

"Yes, Maggie" he answered, "They are the good-looking people".

I haven't posted a photo of myself yet - sadly I'm just not photogenic. grin

Yes I think I'm attractive. Now before I am accused grin of being conceited - I lost all my teeth as a child and in the last few years, all my hair, so I have been through the mill looks wise. So I have false teeth and false hair and sometimes when I think about it I could sit and cry but the outside world would never know. I am 66 and have been 'chatted' up a few times since I had my hair system. I have to smile to myself and think 'if only they knew'.

I don't think I ever have been, and it has never mattered to me, but DH thinks I am, and I do 'scrub up well' when I have to! Some days I look in the mirror and I think 'Mmm!' smile but mostly it's 'Arghh'!

Quite content with how I am, inside and out.

The people I care about still seem to like me so I guess I'm "attractive" enough.

If some random dude on a bus (for example) doesn't think I'm attractive, it's quite likely I would think the same thing about them if I could be bothered. But why would I?

Surface 'attractiveness' is only skin deep.

On a good day, in a kind mirror or a soft light - definitely !

However last week I cleaned a large mirror... putting it on the bed whilst I did so... and leaning over the mirror ... without make -up... dear God that was nothing short of scary !

Am hugely grateful that as often happens, Nature takes care of things... so whilst I still think I'm a rip snorter... it could just be my eyesight !!

I think a lot is to do with self confidence annsixtyand having enough of it not to care what anyone thinks.

bee63 Wed 14-Oct-15 09:44:50

Oh you're very attractive Marmark1 envy

annsixty Wed 14-Oct-15 09:22:39

I am another one whose mother knocked my confidence when young. Why did they do that? Were they jealous that their own youth had gone?
We only have to look at the new profile thread to see that we have some very attractive members on this forum.Although I haven't posted one yet.....

nightowl Wed 14-Oct-15 09:14:13

DGS aged 5 asked me to wear my contact lenses every day because 'you look cool without your glasses nanny'. That'll do for me grin

Nelliemoser Wed 14-Oct-15 09:06:44

Seacliffs comment "A little self confidence is a wonderful thing." is a very good point. I really didn't have any for years. Thank you Mother.

shysal Wed 14-Oct-15 09:00:45

I am another who never considered herself attractive, partly because my mother repeatedly told me so. My ex once told me that in the dark I wasn't bad. That is about as good as it gets! I did care when younger, but now I rarely think about it. I enjoy living alone, so have made no effort to attract a new partner.

Anya Wed 14-Oct-15 08:25:46

I'm another one who's sinking, happily, into Nanahood. I'm not out to 'attract' any one these days (but neither do I wish to repel them either).

Quite happy if my friends and family, especially the grandchildren, seek me out and enjoy my company.

whitewave Wed 14-Oct-15 08:11:53

Noshock my photos are always awful too. I just try to ignore megrin

gillybob Wed 14-Oct-15 08:05:46

That's my problem too Nelliemoser I don't know how to smile/pose. I always look awkward and shocked. My passport photo is verging on ridiculous I look like someone has oppened the curtains in the little booth and shouted "rahhhhhhh" . I wish it were possible to be to taught to like yourself a teensy bit.

Marmark1 Wed 14-Oct-15 08:02:34

Me and hubby

Falconbird Wed 14-Oct-15 08:01:34

My gd1 thinks I'm pretty!!! She loves my hair which is not brilliant, she loves the clothes I wear and my shoes.

My dil who isn't one to pay compliments says I have surprisingly good legs for my age and nice brown eyes like gs1.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

It's nice though to think they think I look OK. although I'm definitely not too sure myself and don't like growing older much, except for some times when I quite like it confused

Marmark1 Wed 14-Oct-15 07:58:10

Real beauty comes from within,of that there's no doubt. But yes(according to other people) I'm told I am attractive.
Mind you when I look in the mirror mornings,I wonder if there's anything wrong with their eyesight.

Nelliemoser Wed 14-Oct-15 07:44:01

Gillybob I feel that way. I am nearly always pulling a face in photographs. I need to pefect a camera smile where I am not pulling my face down. It's horrible to always feel like this isn't it?

seacliff Wed 14-Oct-15 07:14:04

Gillybob - you have put into words exactly how I feel too. Though when I look back at old photos, I probably wasn't as bad as I thought then. A little self confidence is a wonderful thing.

Lucky you though to have some lovely grandchildren, who love you whatever you look like.

gillybob Wed 14-Oct-15 07:03:23

I have never been attractive in any way, shape or form. Like some others have said I avoid mirrors like the plaque. Hate visiting the hairdressers as I don't like having to stare at that great big reflection of "me". Likewise I avoid photographs. If I see a camera I run a mile as my face tends to be the one that spoils the entire photo.

I would hate my DC or DGC to grow up feeling like I do about myself. Thankfully they are all gorgeous so no problem. smile [cheese]
