I have just discovered this website and am entranced with it. Do follow the link and read the letter on this opening page - a gem.

That is one amazing letter. So polite yet so cutting grin

The title should read Letters of Nte.

Yes - a brilliant letter vampire.

Just read the letter to my DH. What a piece of history. The writer is such an inspiration. To be able to reply in such an articulate manner to someone with the bare faced nerve of his previous 'master' (and the behaviour of his family).

Just about sums it up, doesn't it?

Very dignified, isn't it.

I went to the International Slavery Museum last August, that's well worth a visit too if you're in the area.

I came across this some time ago. Isn't it wonderful? Thanks for posting it Lucky, so good to read it through again. One of the best letters in history. Wouldn't we all have loved to see the 'master's' reaction?!
