Leaving Gransnet

I am coming on to Chat to say I am sorry but I have decided to de activate my Gransnet account
I am sorry to leave you all and all your kind talks and help
I am doing it for security reasons as I was until yesterday also a member of Mumsnet.
I have been outed on MN and I had a suspicion that my account was hacked
The person who outed me was a work mate of my ex DIL and this person poured oil on already troubled waters by telling her I had made negative comments about her on MN
I have done an advanced search on MN of all my postings and could not in all honesty find anything which could be construed as "slagging her off" which the words DIL claimed I had said.
I am aware that I have posted on GN about my DS's marriage breakdown but any negative comments I made were towards DIL's mother and not her.
I confess to giving away too much information on these posts so think it is best I leave all sites where messages can be posted
I have learned a hard cruel lesson so hope no one else suffers the same fate
My parting words are "Be careful what you post"

Goodbye all and thank you I shall miss you

Hell's bells pinkprincess!
That's awful, I can't believe that people could be so vicious. Do they really not have anything better to do?
How could your account be hacked- it seems pretty lax on MN's part.

Will miss you, take care are I do hope it's possible to do damage limitation....

I suspect your account is not hacked, but once this person has sussed out who you are she has made trouble for you. OPity she had nothing better to do! Well, you can return once the dust has settled with a new username and a determination to be very very careful.

What Elegran said. Come back soon under another name.

Exactly the same thing happened to me about a year ago and so I changed my username and am now very, very careful about what I say.I find it a bit spooky that so many people read the forums without ever making a contribution but we have to live with that.

A salutary lesson for us all, I think. Come back soon with a new user name PP

It amazes me how people enjoy causing trouble in people's lives when it's none of their business! angry I hope you come back! Don't give them such power!

Many many people lurk and dont contribute.
Other sites give figures of how many views of threads.

A lot of problems aired on here are sadly familiar and happen all too often, especially concerning family matters.

It could be that someone reading posts may pick up on a thread, read a few posts and jump to the erroneous conclusion that it's all about them/their relative/their friend if the situation fits.

Obviously not in pp's case, but something to be aware of, as has been said.

My DN's emails have been hacked by her soon to be ex husband and he changes her password 2 or 3 times a day! It's flipping scary!

thatbags Sun 27-Sept-15 19:45:10

Why doesn't your niece abandon that email address and make up a new one, kitty?

kittylester Sun 27-Sept-15 19:54:34

She uses it for her business bags.

Leticia Sun 27-Sept-15 20:01:10

You can have more than one email address. I play safe and never use my main one for any sites like this.

thatbags Sun 27-Sept-15 20:12:36

Oh, I see. Thanks, kitty.

MargaretX Sun 27-Sept-15 20:46:21

If you really don't want to go take another name and get another email address- Seems a good thing to do in this case anyway.
Good luck
