The butter cream is far to sickly IMHO

The only trouble with home baking is that you make far too much and if he lives on his own he will either eat it all or throw it away (what a waste).
Unless he comes and shares his home baking with the rest of the family of course
A couple of cupcakes are quite enough (after you've scraped off the buttercream!)

Very sensible, and doesn't have to put the oven on or wash up either!

ninathenana I don't like cupcakes either. I don't really like butter cream icing at all and certainly not in the quantities piled on top of cupcakes. Not to mention the often lurid colours.

A good slice of a moist fruit cake is more my taste.

Another non-fan of shop cupcakes, although those MrKipling chocolate ones were good (I think it was MrK). Home-made sponge 'buns' with or without a small dollop of water icing are another matter. And as for fudge doughnuts....

Not a cupcake fan either, although they do look pretty.

I made some lovely little queen cakes with lemon and currants. I prefer my cake with "things" in them.

To the cupcake dislikers I can only say, "there are cupcakes and then there are Fiona Cairns cupcakes". Not a splodge of buttercream in sight.

I can't stand butter cream. Googled Fiona Cairns cupcakes and see that they don't all have lashings of bc.

I'm not a huge fan of cupcakes but have been making quite a few recently to sell on the refreshment stand at GS's junior league football matches. They go down a storm, and I donated a dozen to the scouts fun day cake stall today and they had all disappeared within about twenty minutes, so there must be quite a few buttercream fans out there! Like Nelliemoser, I prefer a slice of fruit or ginger cake!
