I love Christmas. We have four GC and eight great nieces and nephews. We have already bought all their gifts. I don't make a Christmas cake, I don't even attempt one. Previous tries have resulted in dismal failure. I love doing everything else though. My tree usually goes up in early December, plus the other decorations. I think it all stems from my very first Christmas when I was a year old. My parents put the tree up on Christmas Eve, and when I saw it the following morning I was transfixed with awe. My DM always delighted in telling the story.

I cheat on the Christmas cake. I buy a fruit cake then decorate it so it looks homemade. I also order a small birthday cake from the local posh cake shop for DH as his birthday is Christmas Day.

I've been buying presents all year but still got some to get. DD's get the traditional socks, knickers and smellies (a family joke) plus a gift voucher. Their partners just get the vouchers as the first year I bought one of them the socks, knickers and smellies he nearly died of embarrassment because DD2 had told me that he wears boxers. Whilst it was tempting to continue to embarrass him I held myself in check .

I also shop early as I'm not very good in crowded shops.

We won't be having the traditional Christmas dinner because tbh neither of us are really keen on it. At the moment we're considering steak and chips.

I try to hold back on putting up the decorations as I get too excited if I put them up too soon.

My dad was a Christmas fanatic. He spent ages planning it and there was great excitement when he decorated the house. One year he turned the conservatory into a Santa's Grotto. When we put the presents in it Dad did a stop start video so it looked as if the present pile was building by magic. We told her that Santa was so magic that he didn't show up on video tape. DD1 was only 4 at the time and truly believed that Santa used it

I was only saying. . I told my golfing ladies today about 10 times around the course- they were so pleased to have the information!

I'm surprised you weren't found at the 10th, with the proverbial " blunt force trauma " injury

I haven't even had my Summer holiday yet! Well, alright, an early Autumn holiday as we go on Friday. Please, no Christmas threads just yet.In fact, may we leave it until early Dec?

I too love Christmas, although it is not a 'big' family occasion, since we do not have a big family, but the old story being retold, whether or not you believe, the delight in children's faces when they see the decorations and the buying of small gifts for the people you love. Yes, a truly enjoyable season for me.

No annsixty I am surprisingly unscathed. I think I'll give them an update every Wednesday on how near they are to Christmas and see how long it takes one of them to push me in the pond.

I had my hair cut yesterday by my home hairdresser and she got her appt book out saying. " we must book your C.......s appt today" so we can't ignore it however hard we try.

Please can I join you and MiniMouse in your cupboard Greyduster? I know I have made my C cake but that was only because I like it and had an unexpected abundance of eggs. Please can we stay in the cupboard for about 107 days until it is all over ?

Christmas does not start here until after St Nicolas day on the 6th of December, although the wonderful Christmas markets usually begin on the first Saturday of December. Suits me just fine thank you.
