Hello

I am new to Gransnet (my first DGS is due any day now)!

I was wondering how old you were when you had your first compared to the age your children are having theirs? My son is 35 (my DIL 37) and this is their first child.

I had my first son was I was 23, my next at 26 and the third at 34 (lovely surprise that one!)

I was 19 and 21 , and then a gap till I was 30 , my youngest had her first at 20, and another at 24, but my oldest waited till he was 35

30 and 33. I too was an elderly primagravida in the 1980s! Did not appreciate being called that.

I had my children at 23, 25 and 29. DD1 was 27 and 30. DD2 was 20 (just managed not to be a teenage mum lol), 25 and 26.

I was 19,21, 37 and 39( big gap - 2nd time around relationship) . DD1 had her 2 at 34 and 36, DS1 had his at 37 and 39, youngest 2 are 27 and 29 and haven't started yet!

16, 18, 22, 34 (well, 4 days before my 35th birthday) & 37. So I was a young primagravida and then an elderly multigravida.
shock
Even so, I became a gran at the same age as my own mother as #1 waited til 30 before having twins, #2 became a parent at 34. No sign of any other grandchildren as yet.

I was 20,21, 23, 26 and 28. Our 7 grandchildren are 24, 23, 21, 18,18, 15, and 8. I was 49 when the first grandchild was born, and at 72 am about to become a great grandma.
Teetime, I know that you aren`t the only "wanton hussy" on GN, she`s on holiday right now, so may not be reading this!

Pittcity Wed 16-Sept-15 16:39:04

I had mine at 22, 24 and 38 (elderly!).
DD1 was 25 and DD2 was 27.
My Mum was 24, 27 and 31 and became a GGM at 73, whereas MIL was 31 and 34 and became a GGM at 85.

All this maths has made my head hurt wink

Greyduster Wed 16-Sept-15 16:26:20

I had my first at 21, and the second at 24. They are now 47 and 44 respectively. I am quite glad I had them early on in our marriage. My daughter did not produce our only GS until she was 36 then decided she would not be having anymore, sadly.

My mother was 94 when she became a GGM and lived to see 4. We have a photograph printed in the local newspaper of her with them on her 100th birthday .

Teetime. You make me feel a real slow coach. I was another of the Elderly Primagravida's at 28. I had No 2 20 months later at 29. DS became a father at the ages of 35 and 39.

I come from a family of Elderly Primagravidas. My mother had her first child at 31 and her mother had her eldest at 28.

I am unlikely to ever become a Great Grandmother, although my DF managed it for 6 months. He lived to be 92 so may be if I live that long I will manage it as well.

Atrig Wed 16-Sept-15 15:38:10

18 and 19. My second severely disabled but being so young we just took it all in our stride and got on with life the best we could.

16 blush I can see I am the only wanton hussy here- I haven't changed either. DD1 had her first at 16 to so here I am so very young and in danger of being a GGM in the next year or so.

Bellasnana Wed 16-Sept-15 15:13:06

Welcome Heirofthedog and congrats on your soon-to-be-born DGS flowers

I had DD1 at 25, DD2 at 27, DD3 at 32 and DS at 35 (No, we weren't 'trying' for a boy, the last two were unplanned though not unwanted). Only have one DGD who was born when DD2 was 27.

My own dear mum had her three girls when aged 26, 33 and 37. I was the last and she called me her 'bonus baby' grin

19 & 20. Loved being a young mum, and even better a young grandma at 44. Oldest GC now 20 and youngest 2! 2 others in between, and I must say the 2 year old is hard work compared to the others, so really happy I started young.

Katek Wed 16-Sept-15 14:34:13

Ah Cari! I know who you are in RL now!!

CariGransnet (GNHQ) Wed 16-Sept-15 14:09:21

I was very definitely an elderly prim confused (and a geriatric mother - apparently)

My mum was 24, 26 and 32. With the last one she was asked if she'd been "caught on the change" grin

Lona Wed 16-Sept-15 14:02:08

Meant to say congratulations and welcome Heirofthedog smile

TerriBull Wed 16-Sept-15 14:01:32

Lona Wed 16-Sept-15 14:01:04

I was also an elderly primagravida at 26 and 27. My dd had her first at 26 and ds had his at 37.

whitewave Wed 16-Sept-15 13:57:22

granjan66 Wed 16-Sept-15 13:52:21

I was 32 for the first and 36 for the second.

rubysong Wed 16-Sept-15 13:32:36

Like Farnorth I was 25 and 28. To be accurate DS1 was actually born the day before my 25th birthday.

Greenfinch Wed 16-Sept-15 13:08:23

My dil ,myDd and were all the same age when we had our first child. We were 27. In my daughter's case it was twins. We all have husbands who are eight years older than ourselves as well.

cornergran Wed 16-Sept-15 13:07:37

26 and 29. I was told I was nearly an older mum' with the second! Our chdten were older beginning their families and not an eye was batted. smile

rosequartz Wed 16-Sept-15 13:06:52

"Elderly Primagravida".
This term was used to describe anyone who had their first child after 30^
Or even under 30 trisher, I was apparently one of those too at 28! hmm
