I have never been in the position of losing a spouse especially after a long marriage, but FIL is keeping absolutely everything of MIL who died a year ago. Her perfume is in the bathroom, her V pillow is on her chair, her BP monitor is on the side table along with a biscuit tin of her favourites. It's as if she's only stepped out for a moment. It's his way of coping, I know, but is it holding him back? Or do you not move forward at 87? I know I had huge problems with clearing my parents' house and I was only 50. Should we gently encourage him to put away some things like the biscuits or leave him with things as they are?
