What is the most romantic thing that has happened to you?

Much as I like red roses!

Romantic gestures shouldn't be overdone though...I heard an actress saying on the radio, that her huband of about 20 years always buys her a bouquet of red roses every week, no matter what. now, this may be actress speak rubbish ( very possibly) but if it was true, and it was me , I would be gritting my teeth after the first year of it, and begging him to stop by the end of the second year.

I got one windscreen wiper one Christmas. The most romantic thing I did was to put love heart sweets all through my DH's packing when he had to go away on business. He said they went everywhere as he unpacked .

My husband once gave me a set of cheapo saucepans for my birthday.
Beat that!

A French lad whom I met on a uni trip to France, sent me a card afterwards telling me (in French) that I was a "beautiful blue dream" - my Dad wanted to know exactly what he meant by that!!

Also, when I was about 16, a letter was pushed through the door of our house, addressed to the "Older daughter of the house" - that was me. Inside was a letter from a young man who said that he had seen me at the bus stop and thought I was "beautiful" and asking me out. I did go out with him once, but we did not click.

Actually, there is a bit of a story behind that, the first night I stayed over at his place, he apologised for the pile of clothes on the floor, & explained that his ex-wife had taken the wardrobe when she moved out. A very short while after, he sent me a text message saying "For the first time, I feel my life is complete" I sent a reply "Don't tell me you've bought a wardrobe!"

I received a one word reply: "Philistine!"

That was in 2001, we eventually got married in 2004.

In my early 20's I was invited to a ball by the boyfriend of the moment and the following day he appeared at my place of work in central London and presented me with a bouquet of flowers in front of my colleagues to say thanks. I was so embarrassed.

Being kissed long and hard in a torrential thunderstorm and not caring.

Having a poem written about me.

Having a piece of music composed for me.

All DBH.

DH is not given to romance sadly and I think I'm probably not very romantic myself - I really don't like romance novels or films. Give me naked lust everytime over romance!

I don't know if this was romantic or spooky, but twice, in two different locations, someone (?) left a rose on my car windscreen!

DH and I are a holiday romance that has lasted 43 yrs. We met in Venice and had a long distance relationship for two yrs after until he moved to my town. We married a year later.
Where he worked they dealt with recycled paper one morning he came home from night shift and placed flower patterned heart shapes all around the house. He'd found them at work

HappyNan1 - it's ok - my husband also looks like that ( I think it was because my Dad and Grandpa were that type) and he does have his romantic moments.

Ahh That's lovely Vampirequeen. I also love when my DH sings to me. A couple of years ago we were on a sailing holiday when the sea turned choppy. He held my hand + sang to me till we reached calmer water. That's all I can think of as he's not a hearts + flower man. But then I can't think of anything romantic I've done for DH. Maybe I should. But his idea of romance would probably involve odd shaped balls

I was seventeen. I worked in the offices of a bank, it was my first job. A young man worked there, who unbeknown to me, was sweet on me. He had been away on a course for a few weeks, and one evening after his return we were leaving at the same time. We got into the lift together, and he proposed to me, very sweetly.
We had not dated, the only contact we had was at work. Of course I turned him down. I was only seventeen (he was twenty one).
I often wonder what my life would have been like if I had accepted his proposal.

DH proposed to me as I stood between to parts of a waterfall with streams running down either side of me then put the ring on my finger at a Victorian railway station.

But every day DH does something romantic. This morning he sang a love song to me then asked me to dance.

I don't know if young people ever meet like this nowadays:
I was about 21, unattached, on the bus going to work, and a young man got on the bus. He was my ideal man, tall thin dark with glasses. I was looking at him, he looked at me and sat down next to me and asked me out there and then - I thought all my dreams had come true
We met a few times then the big let-down - he showed me a photo of his girlfriend back home who was pregnant, and she was the image of me
But it was good while it lasted.
