Nightbirds

I have joined the nightbirds (it now being nearly 2 am) as my DH managed to wake me up just after I had fallen asleep and there is no hope now of getting back to the Land of Nod, so I have got up and taken myself off downstairs. I do wish he would not do this - understatement! - or wake me in the morning when he wakes (very early). I am forced to confess that it drives me nuts.....I have asked nicely, got cross, sworn, torn my hair out, but all to no avail. "You look so sweet lying there that it seems a shame not to wake you" - if I hear that again I might scream! Appreciated though the compliment is, I need my beauty sleep!!!!!

I can never get back to sleep once woken - I cannot tell you how annoying this is.

Separate rooms.

loopylou Tue 08-Sept-15 06:16:58

No question, separate rooms. Or I'd be guilty of murder!

ninathenana Tue 08-Sept-15 06:19:49

Definitely!!
I don't understand the man, if you look so sweet lying there. Then just leave you and gaze in wonder smile I'm not surprised your cross.

"You look so sweet lying there it seems a shame not to wake you", if you ask me is a selfish statement on his part.

I find it difficult to get back to sleep once woken too. I tend to stay resting there, realise that to me rest is useful too, and then I tend to go back to sleep.

But being woken at 2am and not getting back to sleep at all is bad.

My husband is given my sleep rules, and if he doesnt do them, he is reminded until he does. He realises how important my sleep is.
He also knows that things dont function around the house if I have missed large chunks of sleep, and he suffers by that, so he is careful to try and follow my sleep rules[in my case, dont leave lights on, creep around quietly, dont bang doors].

If I dont get proper sleep, he has to get his own breakfast[he used to often have a cooked breakfast], I will get muddled re business stuff, he cant ask me difficult business questions as no point whatsoever, lunch will be light etc, so basically he knows that it is in his interests to help me sleep!

Does your husband not suffer at all if you have hardly any sleep?

Bellanonna Tue 08-Sept-15 09:23:27

You clearly need to draw up a list of sleep rules, Luckygirl smile

Elegran Tue 08-Sept-15 09:28:38

And penalties for if the rules are broken.

I'd hate (at the moment anyway!) to have a separate from DH but, if one of us should wake up, we take a book and use a spare bed. Unless there is a pressing reason to wake at the normal time, we then sleep late.

Lona Tue 08-Sept-15 09:51:35

Buy 2 or 3 cheap alarm clocks set them to go off at various times during the night and when he's nodded off you sneak into the spare room! That'll teach him! grinwink

kittylester Tue 08-Sept-15 09:57:25

grin naughty Lona!

jinglbellsfrocks Tue 08-Sept-15 09:58:04

How does he wake you? I am sorry if that is a bit personal, but it could make a huge difference to the whole scenario. smile

Lona Tue 08-Sept-15 10:31:14

You are so right jings! grin

kittylester Tue 08-Sept-15 11:53:56

See, I did wonder but had the delicacy not to ask! grin

Luckygirl Tue 08-Sept-15 12:00:30

And I have the delicacy not to answer! grin Suffice to say it is possible to have too much of a good thing! grin

He would break his heart if I suggested separate rooms; he really would. He's being very nice this morning - well, it is my birthday! - and let me sleep in till 10. smile

jinglbellsfrocks Tue 08-Sept-15 12:07:08

Wow! Happy birthday Lg! flowers

ninathenana Tue 08-Sept-15 14:22:41

Happy Birthday Luckygirl smile

FarNorth Tue 08-Sept-15 16:27:38

Have a great birthday Luckygirl flowers sunshine

Your DH sounds pretty selfish, tho. Haven't I seen on other threads that you are not well? In any case, he should have a bit more consideration for you.

Rather than decamp to another room totally, maybe you could just leap out of bed and clear off when the situation rears its head (as it were), maybe throwing a few objects, or at least expletives, as you go!

If he breaks his heart about that, it might cause him to reflect a bit.
At the moment he's getting things all his own way and sees no reason to change.

annodomini Tue 08-Sept-15 17:14:13

Happy Birthday, LG. I hope you get a good night's sleep!

Luckygirl Tue 08-Sept-15 17:18:52

He's OK FarNorth. He has Parkinsons and some of his waking me up relates to that - it is not all unbridled passion! My problem is that once I am woken, I cannot get back to sleep again.

Happy Birthday Luckygirl!
