Mine would include light - lots of it -, windows I could see through when sitting down (this is not the case in many homes), a lovely garden to look out on, no TV on, my iPod full of lovely music to listen to. Ideally a TV in my room that I could watch as and when I wanted.
I would like the home to have details of the side effects that I get with various drugs, as I have a horror of being unable to say how grim I feel and them just stuffing more and more down me!
I used to find places in homes for people when I was a SW, and I think the home owners used to groan when I appeared as I would accept no compromises when it came to the well-being of my clients. I was a right tartar - I was so conscious of how powerless these people were.

Soop's Kindly Kitcheners
(1001 Posts) Helloooooooooooooooo

Luckygirl Wouldn't it be comforting to know that our voices would be heard and that we would be listened to? As for medication...I have been told to stop Simvastatin. I've taken it for a very long time. I can now hopefully look forward to regaining some of my former "wellness".
I used to live in the South West...Modbury, Dartmouth, Kingswear and Kingsbridge.
I must away and say farewell until lunchtime tomorrow. Love to you all.
Save me a place in the quiet and "^lightful^" old people's home too, please.
You'll never believe this, but I've actually made an improvement to the famous and previously thought unimprovable Baggy Flapjacks. Instead of using plain porridge oats, I used sugar-free muesli (i.e. no added sugar) which did contain nuts, cranberries, blueberries and blackcurrants, and I still added the usual amount of chopped nuts. It is totally awesome. Here's a tubful for you all to try.
Thanks bags, I shall nab one for later and hope my teeth are up to it's deliciousness!
I have made up my mind that I'm not going into any care home, I'm just going to sing a rousing version of Queen's "Fat Bottomed Girls" and then make a dramatic exit! (popping clogs or kicking bucket)
I won't be around tomorrow as I'm having my knee 'done' (arthroscopy) so I'll hopefully be here on Thursday, but without my usual Lemon Drizzle cake I'm afraid.
Au Revoir
Last time I used muesli to make flapjack, it broke a tooth. That was an expensive flapjack!
Oohs yummy flapjacks ....perhaps I'd better have another just to check ....
When I picked and subsequently ate all the hazelnuts yesterday, I had meant them to go into DBH's muesli - which I make myself. Since I make his muesli, I do often make it into flapjacks and add a few seeds, but your recipe, which you wrote out for me on another thread, is lovely and makes a nice change for him. He has to have muesli and a flapjack every day because if he didn't he would be on the loo all day.
Good afternoon. Thank you dear bags for the flapjacks. I shall treat myself to one or two to savour with my afternoon
I hope that you are enjoying your time with the family. Weather is good. That's always a bonus.
Lona Our thoughts are with you. Gentle (((hugs))) from us lot
Having said that I would cheerfully go into a care home is a downright lie. I shall do whatever it takes to escape such a fate. We've a deep sea across the road from here. A gentle swim in the dead of night...
^stillhere* I'm very partial to homemade muesli in which one can add different seeds and lots of nuts and chopped dates. I dislike the sugary/gritty brands.
Last night's sunset was nothing out of the ordinary...and then the sky exploded with colour.
soop your ever changing sunsets are beyond words. Spectacular barely describes them.
I have a fervent fear of ever ending up in a care setting so I too would perhaps have an alternative plan- the DH & DCs are well aware, just in case.....
I'm not convinced my teeth will tolerate some nuts, but I'm not giving up on the opportunity to scoff nibble bags' flapjacks! Thank you!
Good luck for tomorrow Lona, fingers crossed all goes well x
loopylou The varying colours of the sea are fascinating. I take the photos through the window. The very last was taken through the narrow side window of the bay. The brilliant glare from the sun was like an explosion. After which, darkness drew in.
I have to prepare for a spell of arty farty activity. I need to paint a highland cow and a long-horn ram for the village hall raffle. Also, I need to sketch a young German shepherd dog and a lovely black Labrador in readiness for their portraits.
Has anyone heard from pompa? I miss him.
I shall wish you all a very peaceful evening. Take good care of yourselves.
Maybe we could take over a care home? I also would not want the TV blaring nor do I want to play bingo. A TV in my room, loads of books and some music chosen by me and I will not cause any trouble- I promise. A cat to stroke and I would be blissfully happy.
I have often fantasised about that, charleygirl. A care home completely populated with friends, and beautifully run. Preferably in a beautiful old castle or big house, with beautiful grounds and a lake.
No, nothing from pompa, but then he did have a bit of a run-in about his being sexist - which I couldn't see at all! He came back on here for a bit and the disappeared. Maybe the garden has kept him too busy.
Hello you lot
, I'm home again, woozy from painkillers but happy to be done!
Such a lot of waiting, but lots of caring from the very nice nurses and staff. I tremble to think what it must cost the NHS to send patients to private hospitals like this one. However, it was a very pleasant experience, and if there still is an NHS and if I need any further treatments, I will certainly make this choice again.
Thanks for the hugs and good wishes, and the flapjack was yummy!
Glad you are home again - best place to be for sure.
A Gransnet care home maybe? - good idea.
It would be a riot Lucky
Every afternoon we could have a "Clash of the Zimmers" competition, or a "
fight" for the fittest!ducks behind the armchair
There have been some plays on tv and a couple of films about care homes which have looked such fun but the reality of them is a million miles away. However it just needs some enterprising people, several £million and it could work!! Volunteers please and my name will be on the list of residents, but hopefully not yet
A Kitcheners' commune! Totally insane and enormous fun in our declining (?) years!
anno A Kitcheners' Commune Yes please! Us lot would have great fun (when we wanted some) and plenty of peace (when we didn't)...those of us that are first rate cooks could take it in turn to run the kitchen. I bags doing the ironing. I find it therapeutic. Those of us with nursing experience could look after those that need tender loving care. We would have a piano around which we'd sing. And perhaps a heated swimming pool for lolling in. A handsome gardener to keep the flower beds neat.
. I'm all excited at the very prospect bags would keep us supplied with flapjacks. Tea time around a crackling log fire. A glass of wine with our evening meal. Safely tucked up in bed with a good book before lights out. Sounds like a plan.
Dear Lona WELCOME home. I'm so pleased to hear that everything went according to plan. Now you need to rest and fully recuperate. Well done.
Yes please, I'd like to put my name on the list of future residents.
It sounded good when Luckygirl first described it, (sorry if I've got the wrong person) it gets better by the day. soop your powers of description almost make think I'm ready now.
We've been planning on going to Ikea for the last few days but the weather has been bad and it's no fun on motorways in the pouring rain. It's much better today and our trip has somehow morphed into a three day break in Seville starting tomorrow. We would have gone today but decided that straight after a visit to the chiropractors wasn't the best time.
I'm really looking forward to it now.
Thanks soop and please put my name down for SOOP'S KITCHENERS COMMUNE , I'll be the tidyupper and bedmaker! And I'll try and make us laugh as much as the Tena ladys allow possible.
On the subject of my recovering knee, its making the most cringe making squeaks when I bend it!

Does it need a lubricant, Lona? I'm sure you can think of something.
dustyangel That type of on the spur of the moment surprise getaway is the best. Great location. Have lots and lots of fun.
Lona just take it very easy for a short time. Any joint that has undergone surgery needs resting...if you really are concerned give the GP a call.
Whoever it was that suggested I paint a Highland Cow for the village hall auction has no idea how frazzled I feel. Nothing new there...I'm always stressed during the fist watercolour application. It will get easier.
and then, I've to paint a long-horned ram. Yikes!
A Kitcheners Commune - what a super idea! Hope there's room for me. I'll be the quiet one with her nose in a book in the corner, or off up the muddy path for a walk with or without a zimmer. I'm not a great joiner-inner, but should love the company nevertheless. If you lot get too rowdy, I'll put on my noise cancelling earphones and appear rather vague, but don't doubt the pleasure you'd all give me.
Lona Hope the knee-fixing has done the business.
