Any more news on your dog *Anya? Keeping everything crossed!
Last three letters contd - 2026
What has survived in your garden with minimal or no watering?
Day One of my personal challenge, no alcohol for September - anyone care to join me ...?
Any more news on your dog *Anya? Keeping everything crossed!
So sorry to read about the fire Anya and I hope your dog is ok.
Oh, Anya, what can I say?! Talk about troubles never coming singly! A dear friend of mine would now smash an old vase or something you can do without as her theory is that they always come in threes.
I am just so sorry - I only came on to report on my step count and look what I've walked into
. Your poor old dog - do let us know how he gets on, won't you? Is he insured?
I've just shown the photo of your kitchen to my DH and he sloped off into the kitchen to make sure he'd switched the grill off....
I shall certainly be more careful in future (for the next few days, of course, till I forget again).
and
for you. x
Just read this thread, Anya, I'm horrified and can really not add to what's been said by others!
Hope the kitchen's a bit cleaner by Halloween though! Poor you, and poor DH, bet he feels terrible...
How about we hold our GN Halloween party in my kitchen? It's got the right look and atmosphere
Inside the upstairs bathroom cabinet - I've lifted a few things to show it was clean before)
What were white curtains in an upstairs bedrooms .
Source of the fire and the other end of the dining / kitchen (ceiling was white and walls cream!)
Oh crikey; I leave things on my cooker all the time [including the washing up bowl] and it never crossed my mind what could happen. Hope the little dog will be ok; strangely enough I saw a picture on the internet only a couple of days ago of special oxygen masks that are now being used for pets.
Thanks for all the lovely wishes. I'm waiting to hear about B&B accommodation for the first 10 days. Yes, we could stay with family (bunked down at DS's last night) and now at DD's for a while to have shower as soot is very hard to get rid of. But better if we can find somewhere else, less intrusive. Then will get rented accomodate on for estimated 3-5 months.
Meeting with man from Chemidry at 1.30 to see what is cleanable/salvageable.
i now know the difference between a loss adjuster and a loss assessor! Pity about Christmas though, I was supposed to be cooking dinner for 8 adults and 4 children.
I'm very thankful to the schoolgirls who raised the alarm (we were out on the school run) and the firemen who gave the dog oxygen from a baby mask. I'll know more about him later today, but it's touch and go.
Anya I am shocked and so sorry to hear about this disaster. Thank God you are both safe, and really, really hope your dog pulls through OK.
I never remember the quote in full, but it's that one about 'troubles not coming like single spies, but in battalions...'
I sincerely hope this last one is indeed the last.
Oh good grief Anya - that's awful for you, so relieved though that you and DH are unhurt. I hope the vet can help your 'old' dog as well
I've read through your post a few times and each time I'm more shocked - hopefully as well as the professionals to advise/help - you have family and friends to lean on too? Perhaps they can offer a few days stay where you can gather your thoughts and strength over a
or
...
I know you have nowhere to put them but I'm sending
anyway (in one of those water bag things so no need of a vase)
XX
Anya That is deadful.
As for pedometers they always work themselves up off belts or waistbands. I attach mine with a nappy pin it's not elegant and it still works off but it stays attached. They are probably made like that so people have to keep replacing them.
Anya I don't usually come on this thread and I'm so sorry to hear all this.
Thinking of you.
Oh Anya what awful news from you and what a shock for you. At least you are unharmed but poor consolation I know.I hope you didn't lose anything "precious" and they find you somewhere decent for the next few months.
Sitting here in a blackened house waiting for the loss assessor, the cleaning company and CountryWide to ring.
The cleaning company who will remove the soot from blackened walls, ceilings, and every nook and cranny throughout the house. The soot has even crept into cupboards and drawers so clothes and underwear all sooty, possibly ruined, too. Curtains ruined. Carpets too. Kitchen a total disaster area.
CountryWide will hopefully find us alternative accommodation for the next few months while the house is repaired, replastered, reap appeared, repainted.
Old dog at vet's in oxygen tent and not looking good.
Thank goodness we're insured. And all because DH left a big plastic bowl on the hob, which he had forgotten to turn off.
Didn't manage my steps for last two days
I managed my steps yesterday - just - by virtue of taking a half hour brisk walk to top up while DGS2 napped. It was a fast day, so also dry (where's that halo icon when you need it?).
Off to the big city for a shopping trip today, so I'll be interested to see how many steps one can tot up wandering aimlessly and gormlessly around T K Maxx and M & S. Not quite the Pyrenees and Black Mountains, but one does what one can.
I'll report back tonight. Have a good day, all.
O.K. I've only been away for a few days and what do I find on this thread ... NOTHING!! SILENCE! No ticking of pedometers, no popping of corks, no slicing of chocolate cake.
Maggie you are excused - especially after that harrowing scene on Downton last night (I didn't see it but I read about it) that must have really put you off your
And your overall step count is good
Oh alright Ana you are excused too due to the sore throat - hope you are feeling better
Anya my 'dry-buddy' - how are you - and the family after your horrible experience? Hope this week has seen a better start
I am hoping to re-unite my fitbit with the sensor tomorrow and try a run up and down these hills - with the Pyrenees in view on one side and the Black Mountains on the other - it's all a bit challenging
Bonne nuit X
Well, I've been polishing off leftovers today and DH made us all one of his gigantic full English breakfasts this morning, so I am feeling rather guilty. We went to see Suffragette this afternoon, so very little exercise has been undertaken. Then I had to have a glass of reviving
after the drama of Downton tonight (graphic or what?!).
At least I didn't succumb to the popcorn and chocs that DD1 had when she went to see the same film with her friend this evening. As she admitted, after the excesses of this weekend, if she'd thrown herself in front of a horse tonight,it would have been the horse that would have been in danger.
I have added up my weekly step total and despite a very naughty weekend, have managed to average 5600 a day over the week. Phew.
I hope you're feeling a bit better tonight, Ana. And sante to you, JG, keep on enjoying your holiday (I have no idea how to do the accent on my Kindle). Have you been good today, Anya? Has the top gone back on the mother's ruin?
Sounds as though it's a good job you posted early, jogginggirl
glad you're having such a good time!
Not reached my goal yet but have a sore throat and lack of energy which has kept me indoors today (I know I have stairs, but it does get a bit boring...
). You will all be relieved to know, though, that I managed to get through today without losing my pedometer!
Oh goodness - it's taken me all day to get over the chocolate cake, the 'holiday' wine and the search for those 'things with wings' - in case the hilarity starts again tonight and I can't move fast enough
Shame on you Anya blaming a very generous Maggie for your slide from grace ... giggle, snort ... you're a grown woman and should know better
I wasn't aware that Ana didn't like chocolate cake but to be fair I never thought to ask
it was such a small slice
it was gone in a flash!! I'm not being ungrateful Maggie - I would have saved the larger slice for myself as well
but the prosecco fitted the bill perfectly! Thank you
I have to confess - still no stepping here (Ive found the fitbit but seem to have mislaid the sensor
) - spent most of the day unpacking and re-arranging stuff. There is a lovely slow-cooked lamb dish in the slow cooker and the local
is going down a treat...
I really appreciate the fabulous family and friends I have - they are making this break possible - santé gransnetters - life is definitely for living
Apologies Ana it's obvious from all the giggles and snorts I'll not get any sense from t'other two tonight.
No, not me, I'm not keen on cake or chocolate.
though, that's another matter...
I hardly dare show my face on this thread as I've been A Very Bad Person and had an attack of the munchies brought on in part by Maggie's mention of chocolate cake and her wine swigging (at least that's my excuse) . She is a Very Bad Influence on me and drove me to 3x G&Ts and a Snicker
and I suspect that JG has eaten the last of the chocolate cake too, probably aided and abetted by Ana [ hmm]
jogginggirl. We've saved you a glass.
The odd colour is due to a drop of added Aperol.
I can (giggle) hardly (snort) type a response to you Maggie - I am laughing so much
at your posts!
I would just love to share a bottle of Prosecco with you
Enjoy your lovely celebrations xx
p.s. The chocolate cake is yummy (I was just wondering what was for dessert)
p.p.s. I've hidden my Fitbit
