How stupid is Corbyn getting

I wonder how good or bad things would be now if Milliband was PM rather than Cameron.

I can think of a number of areas I wouldn't be so depressed about, e.g. Justice/Legal Aid, the NHS, mental health services, children's centres, services for children and families - the list could go on and on. I'm still not certain who will get my vote for the labour leadership (other than it won't be Liz Kendal) but I'm very pleased that Jeremy Corbyn is a candidate. It's made the whole thing so much more interesting and dare I say genuine? His gem for today is saying he'd have a fund to ensure that trusts don't get into trouble with re-paying PFI's. That and apologising forIraq - genius

Agreed, tigger, but if more Labour supporters had gone out and voted - in fact, they did; their share of the vote increased - we would not be discussing Corbyn now, as Miliband would have been PM.

What's wrong with a bit of idealism. If people feel so threatened by his popularity then Labour supporters should have made the effort to get out and vote then we wouldn't be in this pickle. As for Yvette Cooper, shame on her using the equality issue to denounce women only carriages. Perhaps we should take Jeremy Corbyn's proposal at face value in that he genuinely sees women as equal but appreciates that nevertheless we are vulnerable in particular situations.

I heard that a lot of young people are in favour of re-nationalising the railways. This being because they are too young remember what British Rail was like. Cue jokes about BR sandwiches etc.

You could have women only carriages. Would it be like no mobiles carriages where nobody takes much notice of the restriction anyway? And the whole transvestite question would come up. Toilets? This would run and run. (trying to work out if a pun there.)

I am beginning to feel more hopeful that we are at last beginning to reject the awful cult of individualism in the UK and begin to think of an alternative. The sad thing is that the younger generation can never remember a time when this was not the case. With luck it will eventually be bunged into the dustbin of history as an unfortunate aberration

I think he's just exploring the idea, at least he's acknowledging that violence against women is an issue, well violence in general. Corbyn frightens the media and others and so they leap on every little thing. The increase in political awareness, especially amongst young people, is a really hopeful sign after years of apathy have led us to where we are now - in a right mess. I'm not a Labour supporter but I still say thank God for someone speaking up for the poor and powerless in our society.

That goes for both Trump and Boris.

Those with dual nationality are not immigrants!
My husband has dual nationality so do lots of people.

Why is Boris Johnson's 'immigrant' status relevant to anything at all? Why, in short, has it been mentioned? Especially as the sneering negative-seeming mention was by someone who, I seem to remember, has said we should accept all the migrants currently at Calais, no questions asked.

He was born in America and had dual nationality until he realised that the US had him paying more tax than he would if all his money was here, NotTooOld. He has now given up his US nationality, but he still had dual when he was made Mayor of London.

Durhamjen, he is an immigrant, isn't he? But then, so are most of us. I've been researching my DH's family tree and found that yonks and yonks back he is related to Scandinavian Royalty, just like Boris, so perhaps Boris is my relative-in-law. Yoiks. My hair does look a bit like his on a bad hair day.....no-ooooooooooo.....

anyway, I agree with your much earlier post that JC did not say he wanted to have ladies (surely WOMEN'S?) only carriages. He just said he would consult about it and if it was popular he would think about it.
Personally, I think that would be a massive step backwars for feminism, so let's not do it. The answer to crime on the railways is MORE STAFF. All we get these days is a 'train manager' who may or may not make an appearance. A seat would be nice, too.

It's because he doesn't slag the others off, Jane. He just gets on with his good socialist policies, however and whoever he is attacked by. He seems quite unflappable.

That's Trump that is not Corbyn who seems to be very straightforward and likeable even if you don't agree with his politics you can respect him. Quite rare these days!

He makes Americans seem like idiots to me for putting up with him far less supporting his nomination in the first place. (I do know that most Americans aren't though!)
