Using the original cast , what tasks would the platoon take if they manned the Channel Tunnel at Folkestone,
For example would the spiv be selling his wears to those he lets through.

" There is no "migrant" crisis in the Mediterranean. There is a very large number of refugees fleeing unimaginable misery and danger and a smaller number of people trying to escape the sort of poverty that drives some to desperation.

So far this year, nearly 340,000 people in these circumstances have crossed Europe's borders. A large number, for sure, but still only 0.045 percent of Europe's total population of 740 million.

Contrast that with Turkey, which hosts 1.8 million refugees from Syria alone. Lebanon, in which there are more than one million Syrians. Even Iraq, struggling with a war of its own, is home to more than 200,000 people who have fled its neighbour.

There are no easy answers and taking in refugees is a difficult challenge for any country but, to find solutions, an honest conversation is necessary. "

Not quite quadrupling the population of Europe, Jane10.

Mutated or evolved or diverged?

Anya Sun 23-Aug-15 16:42:04

Did you not read my post DJ where is said Assad is bombing his own people?

Jane10 Sun 23-Aug-15 16:40:46

This thread, as many others do, has mutated. Looks like I'm thinking of the bigger picture and some of you others are more set on aspects of the whole. Fair enough you think your thoughts and I'll think mine.

Anya Sun 23-Aug-15 16:40:39

Jane I think S2B really ought to be old enough to work out her thoughts before she commits them to a post. However I will aquit her of being deliberately bumbling and woolly minded, now you have explained her thought processes.

durhamjen Sun 23-Aug-15 16:37:53

Who else is bombing Syria?

Anya Sun 23-Aug-15 16:35:51

Where have you said otherwise Annie? You named the UK and the USA only.

durhamjen Sun 23-Aug-15 16:35:50

Quadruple?
This thread is about Calais, and those wishing to come to the UK.
There are 4000 people at Calais.

Jane10 Sun 23-Aug-15 16:32:20

Great lets quadruple the population of Europe!

durhamjen Sun 23-Aug-15 16:30:56

www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2015/aug/21/calais-migrant-family-syria-refugee-help

We need more families like this one.

Anniebach Sun 23-Aug-15 15:57:10

Anya, where have I said only the west are guilty of bombing and killing?

Jane10 Sun 23-Aug-15 15:50:40

Don't lets get caught up in a blame game. Men fight/make trouble. Its testosterone to blame. Religion is the excuse in the middle east and football over here! Grans don't need to fight each other. soon works out her thoughts by writing them down. petra and anya - I don't know what's going on with you two. Anniebach I get where you're coming from but where would you suggest we all go? How can we absorb all these thousand upon thousand people? Our whole culture would have to change. To pay- higher taxes/reduced benefits. Housing? NHS? -dreams for us all. Who would be the winners? ISIS - they would inadvertently have brought Europe to its knees. sad

Anya Sun 23-Aug-15 15:36:53

Zog?

petra Sun 23-Aug-15 15:36:13

Anya 'what colour is the sun on your planet' I'd just like to know the name of the planet. I have my own ideas but not printable here.

Anya Sun 23-Aug-15 15:32:21

S2B are you for real?

Anya Sun 23-Aug-15 15:31:18

Don't forget Bashar al-Assad bombing his own people Annie , or Hammas and Isreal flinging missiles at each other, all these couldn't care less about the civilians they kill and main. The west hasn't a monopoly on stupidity, so don't be so blinkered.

soontobe Sun 23-Aug-15 15:28:26

That quote is sort or correct.
But it doesnt mean that you cant leave and fight after leaving.

soontobe Sun 23-Aug-15 15:26:48

When you fight them, it is not necessary to live with them. That is not wise, or even necessary.
In fact it is easier if the good men are not there. And their families obviously.

Anniebach Sun 23-Aug-15 15:24:49

You should talk to the young men Jane10, explain to them to ignore the massacres , the bombing by America and the UK , the poverty , just get a job and keep their heads down , oh and those from Iraq and Afghanistan , just explain because we blasted their country killing thousands it doesn't mean we are concerned about the aftermath

Anya Sun 23-Aug-15 15:24:08

History proves that quote over and over again.

Jane10 Sun 23-Aug-15 15:21:35

"In order for evil to prevail it is sufficient only that good men do nothing". I think ISIS and fundamentalists actually are evil. Where are the good men?

Anya Sun 23-Aug-15 15:14:24

S2B what colour is the sun on your planet?

Katek Sun 23-Aug-15 15:00:41

Britain only accepted around 40-50.000 Jewish immigrants prewar and around the same again after the war had started. Including the Kindertransport there were approximately 100,000 Jewish refugees accepted of which 75% were interned. They didn't buy their way in-all had to be sponsored by a British citizen who was prepared to support them so they weren't a drain on the state.

Not the same situation as Calais migrants at all

soontobe Sun 23-Aug-15 14:59:51

Republic of Ireland dont have jobs though. And nor do many other countries. And that is a big problem. A very big problem.

soontobe Sun 23-Aug-15 14:57:23

You fight from a distance. You dont have to live with them to do that.

If you leave the oppressors back home, they will likely turn on themselves.

I cant blame asylum seekers from trying to leave.
Where they will go to is a problem.

I do think that some countries have space. Republic of Ireland for example.
