Using the original cast , what tasks would the platoon take if they manned the Channel Tunnel at Folkestone,
For example would the spiv be selling his wears to those he lets through.

Isn't it about time the United Nations stepped in and if you are fleeing for your life I am sure you wouldn't object to going to say Russia, China, India, Khazakstan, Saudi Arabia, Dubai. What are they doing to take in migrants/refugees.

My problem is the fact that landing on safe shores and leaving the bombing is not the aim. The aim is to make much further travels to get to specific countries. I think those who escaped from Nazi occupation would have been just happy to get out of Germany full stop. Anything, anywhere was a sheer bonus for their survival.

I do indeed work out some of my thought as I write them down.

If most people doing good behaviour have left a country, it makes it a lot easier to deal with the people doing the bad behaviour.
It saves innocent people being killed.
Also, they are not used as human shields.
So if families are able to leave, then good.

Merlotgran, I am not assuming, I say we assume because I don't like to say you assume

merlotgran Sun 23-Aug-15 23:36:46

You can include me out in your assumptions, Anniebach

Anniebach Sun 23-Aug-15 23:33:18

We don't know if the men are married or have left families behind, they may be single men travelling with brothers or sisters, we just assume because they are not with women and children they have left wives and children behind, am sure there are groups of single men too

Refugees are different to migrants. They are not migrating through choice.

Although the OP does state migrants which is confusing.

jinglbellsfrocks Sun 23-Aug-15 23:23:11

money sent home

jinglbellsfrocks Sun 23-Aug-15 23:20:05

migrants do send money home

Anniebach Sun 23-Aug-15 23:15:03

Don't know what Merlotgran?

www.mercycorps.org/articles/turkey-iraq-jordan-lebanon-syria/quick-facts-what-you-need-know-about-syria-crisis

And of course, it is not just Syrians.
I should imagine most of these people would like to see their country at peace and to go home again.

It is a huge humanitarian crisis.

How many refugees has the US taken?

Anya Sun 23-Aug-15 23:10:21

LOL

merlotgran Sun 23-Aug-15 23:03:47

So you don't know either, Anniebach hmm

Anniebach Sun 23-Aug-15 23:01:03

I don't see a wholesome image, I see desperate people and I hear a msn say we are human too

merlotgran Sun 23-Aug-15 22:57:39

Forgive me for being thick but this wholesome image of young men sending money back to their families and then 'sending for them' is a tad confusing.

If their families are living under persecution, how do they get the money back to them? A cheque in the post, internet banking, carrier pigeon?

When they send for their loved ones, how do they get them out? Do they subject them to the same ordeal they suffered at the hands at the traffickers or is there a more comfortable option?

Just wondering.

Anya Sun 23-Aug-15 22:44:39

Annie so glad you are not missing the irony gene too!

Anniebach Sun 23-Aug-15 22:40:39

Too funny Anya, to insult during a discussion on how offensive it is to insult by criticising

Anya Sun 23-Aug-15 22:37:25

Petra I'd give up trying to argue logically with someone who is apparently missing that particular gene! wink

Ana Sun 23-Aug-15 22:35:46

Exactly. Why should it be OK for someone to criticise our way of life just because some people in the UK criticise theirs? There's no excuse for rudeness or bad manners on either side.

fluttERBY123 Sun 23-Aug-15 22:34:42

Jane10 - re the fit young men abandoning families. More likely they are being sent by the families as the people most likely to succeed. The young men are probably hoping to be able to send money back to the families left behind and in time to be able to bring them to Europe as well.

rosequartz Sun 23-Aug-15 22:21:16

I can't see that petra said anything different to me.

If we are to respect other religions and cultures then we should expect the same respect in return - especially if someone is accepting hospitality in our home.

jinglbellsfrocks Sun 23-Aug-15 21:56:08

(I'm sorry I'm a little late reading this thread)

jinglbellsfrocks Sun 23-Aug-15 21:55:10

I think vampirequeen got it spot on with her post of Fri 21-Aug-15 19:47:57. Lovely scenario too. smile

Maggiemaybe Sun 23-Aug-15 20:58:27

I'd be interested to know how the young woman in question felt about being criticised in her own home by a stranger brought into it by her parents. Criticised not once, when no doubt cultural differences were explained to him, not twice even, but 'occasionally', whatever that means in this context.

Anniebach Sun 23-Aug-15 20:29:31

Petra, I didn't twist things, you said you would no more criticised a family who were feeding you than fly to the moon, and if they were not feeding you ? Surely a criticism if deserved shouldn't depend on being fed or not . I didn't know what you meant, I read what you said and replied to that

petra Sun 23-Aug-15 20:11:13

Gosh, Annie. You certainly know how to twist things round, don't you?
You know very well what I meant, so why post that?
And thank you, Jane10
