Oh well, they've both got some now.

During the funeral broadcast, it was said that Cilla`s family said that any donations would be divided between Gt. Ormond Street and Alder Hey.

I watched online some of the funeral and then went to the donations page set up in Cilla's name. It was for Great Ormond Street Hospital and I donated. While this is good that it is a children's charity that is benefiting, would it not have been more appropriate for donations to have gone to Alder Hey Hospital which is actually in Liverpool and not in London as GOSH is?

I then went on to Alder Hey website and donated to them also as I had heart surgery in The Royal Liverpool Children's Hospital as a child, twice.

I've just watched the BBC4 programme on catch-up - really enjoyed it. I liked her duet with Phil Everly best "Let It Be Me".

@Luckygirl - We used to say she had three voices: High, Low and Overdrive...

Bellanonna Sun 16-Aug-15 21:54:46

Watching it too. Interesting contrast in her voices.

Just watching the tribute programme on BBC4 - what a voice, and what a performer! Her voice is fascinating - she has two voices: one is very sweet and pure, the other a real belter. It is intriguing to hear her move effortlessly from one to the other. I wonder whether she could have sung the higher notes in her "sweet" voice. Spot on in tune.

One final graceful curtsy from one beautiful lady.

I can understand her saying she didn't want to live beyond 75, she said so that she wouldn't be a burden on her sons. It seems like she had one hell of a life, from the early days in the Cavern, to going on holiday with Paul and Biggins. A wonderfully long and happy marriage, great kids, shame about her losing her daughter, but lots of love and support from Bobby in being her manager and then Robert taking over when Bobby died. She had a full and loved life, what more could anyone want?

I too have lived all my life with her being around, singing, Blind Date, popping up on other shows, Morecambe and Wise, Loose Women, her show done by Paul recently (being shown again tomorrow). She finished this show with my favourite song of hers "Liverpool Lullaby" which takes me back to being a child, when I had my heart operation in Royal Liverpool Childrens Hospital. I have albums of hers, enjoyed her and admired her strength of character.

Be safe again in Bobby's arms, Cilla. Much love. flowers

I read that she didn't want to live beyond 75 so sadly she didn't even make that. I still can't believe it's happened, she was such a big part of my teenage years and I always loved her and her music. Some of her songs bring back so many memories of 'way back then. It's heartbreaking reading the tributes from so many of her showbiz friends like Cliff, Paul O'Grady, Gloria Hunniford, Christopher Biggins, etc., etc. I'm just so glad I managed to see her in a guest appearance on one of Cliff's tours many moons ago - she was so warm and funny and it was obvious to everyone just how close friends they were. My thoughts are with all her family and friends and like to think she is reunited with her beloved Bobby. May she rest in peace.

I was a fan. I think she was a genuine person. Didn't like her shows much but did like lots of her songs. Hope she is at peace with her beloved Bobby.

I liked Cilla's voice - it had character, and she used it very skilfully. It did have a slightly nasal quality - but she was a scouser! I also felt that she was a someone who had principles - her Blind Date programme never descended into smut, unlike many programmes that we have now. She also seems to have sustained a normal marriage and family life, which takes some doing when you are under the spotlight.

I was not a fan of cilla but having said that she was easy viewing and was quite a character. I was quite surprised to hear of her death at a quite a young age. I feel sorry for her family.
I am however quite fed up with the extreme coverage on the news programmes.

I see dear Katie Hopkins has waded in with snide comments about people praising Cilla. It doesn't seem to have occurred to her that most of these people had known Cilla for 50 odd years and were personal friends. I wonder how many will remember Katie fondly in 50 years time?

Funny how a lot of us thought her voice strident, harsh and screechy at the time but compared to some of today's vocal acrobats, she was positively melodious.

rosequartz Mon 03-Aug-15 16:10:21

I think Cilla suffered with arthritis, which must have made life difficult for someone who had been so active.

soontobe Mon 03-Aug-15 16:08:16

Could be jingl. Or perhaps they are used to a high level of energy etc, so find it more difficult when they dont have as much any more.
A bit like having looks, and them possibly fading when older.

Luckylegs9 Mon 03-Aug-15 16:05:14

Never a fan of her voice, I found it screechy. Nevertheless quite liked her. I can quite understand her not wanting to live beyond 75, that is how I feel without my husband. I love my life but dread becoming a turn or a burden. Cilla had a lovely life and career and leaves a family she thought the world of and they her, so it was a life complete.

rosequartz Mon 03-Aug-15 15:51:49

Christingle, no it's not worse or more tragic just because someone is a celebrity - but because they are celebrities they are well-known and in some way we feel as if we know them!

Cilla has always been around since my teenage years, and in fact was at commercial college with a friend of mine who used to chat about her all those years ago. Cilla was never going to be a secretary was she!

By all accounts a very popular lady and a kind and loving friend. RIP Cilla, gone too soon, I hope you are reunited with Bobby.

EmilyHarburn Mon 03-Aug-15 14:35:24

A great lady. I loved her songs, TV shows, Blind Date etc. Younger than me so a shock. However Cilla had said she did not want to grow old and so it seems, she got what she wished. Miss you. Rest in Peace. Bless your family.

angie95 Mon 03-Aug-15 14:32:37

So sad, I thought Cilla would be with us forever. I liked her, because she had no airs and graces, she was down to earth, and always laughing. A little bit of sunshine has gone from Liverpool, Manchester all the places Cilla touched..R.I.P Cilla, thanks for the "lorra lorra laughs" xx

jinglbellsfrocks Mon 03-Aug-15 14:19:29

I wonder if "having it all" early in life takes away the desire to live longer. Perhaps there is nothing left to look forward to. I don't see why anyone would want to leave in their mid seventies.

Christingle Mon 03-Aug-15 13:56:11

It's sad when anyone dies. It's not worse or more tragic just because they are celebrity status. I can never understand why celebs are given such high regard and held up on a pedestal. They go out of this world the same as evryone else.

sally345 Mon 03-Aug-15 13:52:27

Really sad at the passing of Cilla Black she felt like a friend because she was so much a part of my youth and the music brings back so many memories of places and people and events of my growing up and where i was at the time of a record being played.

She will be sadly missed.

I know it's such a shock for all of us to hear the news but what a lovely way for Cilla to go in her sleep god bless Cillasmile

Cosafina Mon 03-Aug-15 13:03:38

So sad she's gone - a lovely personality! I heard she stopped doing Blind Date when they started to make it crueller: she didn't want to be involved with it after that and I applaud her for it.
RIP Cilla - you'll be missed

I wonder what died of natural causes actually means, a heart attack perhaps ?
