Cilla Black has died

When you consider how talented she was ,and the people she started to hang around with such as the Beatles, she was one singer who many of those in the sixties as teenagers followed.
Never saw her perform live myself, but enjoyed her music all be some of them were covers of US artists songs.

I was only saying to DS this morning (yesterday now), how famous people you grow up with almost become a part of your family. You don't have to be a particular fan but you feel as if you know them and mourn their death. I was hugely affected by the deaths of John Lennon and George Harrison but was surprised by my distress over George Best, Christopher Lee and Robin Williams. DS broke the news about Cilla this afternoon and he seemed to understand what I had been saying.

TerriBull - I often sing 'You're my World' and 'Anyone who had a Heart' (when I am alone) even more so since I saw the biopic with Sheridan Smith.

She was only a couple of months younger than me. I had wondered if when she said 75 would be long enough for her, she had a lot of people close to her that had since that age become increasingly more disabled.

Such a shock when she always seemed so fit for her age. Only 3 years older than me and I don't feel anything like ready to go!

I agree Jane, it does seem strange.
I really loved her records in the 60's, especially You're My World, a great song.

I think it's very sad when someone says they don't want to live beyond a certain age, as if a chronological age defines one's state of health or mind.
I can understand someone not wanting to live with chronic pain or disability or severe depression or simply feeling they don't want to go on any longer in the state they find themselves, but deciding in advance that beyond at a certain age you won't want to live, irrespective of other factors, seems perverse.

She was a big part of my youth too as I originally come from that part of the UK. ' Your'e my World ' always reminded me of an old boyfriend!. I don't think anyone sang it quite like her. Very unusual voice. Sad news.

I actually feel quite shocked because she was a huge part of my teenage years. Can't explain it really, but almost like she was someone I went to school with IYSWIM.

Should have put a couple of commas in my last sentence - should read A shame, I'm sorry, she will be missed.

Sad to hear this news, I always remember her as part of the great wave of talent that came out of Liverpool that was the backdrop of my childhood. 72 isn't a great age these days.

To be honest I wasn't wild about her voice - it had 2 dimensions to it, soft and a bit screechy when it rose, but her personality and humour set her up for a long career in television. The recent biopic with the wonderful Sheridan Smith gave many a renewed interest in her. A shame I'm sorry she will be missed.

I really liked her as a singer. She had a good voice and some memorable songs. Never knew the TV presenter side of her as, living abroad, we did not get the relevant shows.

It is sad that she has gone, but we all have to go one day and far better for a quick end than a long-drawn out illness, or sitting in a home waiting for the grim reaper. That's just my opinion, of course. RIP Cilla

Oh how sad! She she really was an icon of our generation. I liked her.

It's sad. She was younger than me. A great entertainer and an attractive personality.

She seemed as normal as you can be in the entertainment business. I believe she had a happy family life.Apparently she suffered with deafness and arthritis recently

I liked what I saw of Cilla Black too.

She once said she didnt want to live beyond 70

Stuart Baggs from the Apprentice apparently said last year on Come Dine with me "I'm not here for a long time, I'm here for a good time, and I want to live hard, die young". He died aged 27 this week.

I was genuinely shocked and quite saddened when my daughter ran upstairs to tell me this news. I always liked Cilla - perhaps not all her shows, but I liked her. Another part of my teenage years gone .

Paul O'Grady and Christopher Biggins were close friends. So was Cliff Richard, I think.

That chap who does dog programmes was a close friend I think. He will be sad.

I heard it on the Classic FM news about an hour ago. Again I wasn't a fan. Its good to hear it was natural causes and at home so hopefully she wasn't in distress. I heard Lionel Blair on the radio who was terribly upset.

I'm shocked too - she was part of my youth. I saw her a couple of times on 'Mersey Beat Tours' in the 60s. I also took my Nan to see her in Blackpool. Really sad day for her family.

To coin a phrase 'she was no age', was she?
