Printmiss I'm so sorry - this must be so distressing. You've spent your life loving and protecting Robert so it's very hard when it seems you can't do that.
I can only echo Luckygirl and Jane10's comments that as he was sedated quickly, he won't remember being restrained. He will know you are there now and that's what's important. I do admire you for recognising that the staff had to do what they did in Robert's best interests.

Oh, PRINTMISS that's such a distressing thing to happen to your lovely son and it's understandable that they were saving his life and had to grit their teeth and do it, but how upsetting for all concerned. I hope he can recover from this and that you can get over it in time. flowers

luckygirls comment that with all the sedatives he really won't remember the horrid struggling is very valid. He will appreciate you being there right now. I hope things settle soon. Best wishes.

Dear PRINTMISS I am so sorry that you have all had to go through this ordeal. flowers

PRINTMISS How dreadfully upsetting for all of you, I'm hope your son will not be too traumatised by his treatment.
He wasn't treated like a criminal, he was being helped in the only way possible at the time, and you've said that the police and social workers were also upset.
Keep holding his hand and comforting him, he is your baby whatever his age, and he needs your loving touch.
We are here to support you as always xx. flowers

Dear Printmiss. I feel so sad for you and your family. Words are inadequate so I won't attempt to express how you must be feeling - you have told us this so eloquently.Do come back to us when you need to. As others have said, we are there for you, holding your hand. flowers

Oh Printmiss my heart aches for you. What a truly frightening and upsetting experience for all of you. It must be so hard to have to watch all this happening and be unable to do anything. Sending you lots of (((hugs))) and thinking of you through this difficult time flowers

Oh, Printmiss, we missed your posts on Mick's Good Morning thread and I am really sad to hear how upsetting this has been for your son and for you and your DH. You know in your heart that it was done for the best of reasons but that doesn't make it any easier to cope with at the moment. I hope you have much better news today. Please know that while you are holding your son's hand, we are holding yours.

Please let us know what happens and keep 'talking' to us. flowers

I'm so sorry this happened. It must have been traumatic for everyone concerned. Keep talking to us. It does help to write things down even though it doesn't always feel like it at first.

Luckygirl Sun 19-Jul-15 08:42:36

How very traumatic for all concerned. It must have been very distressing indeed to witness; but it does sound as though everyone tried every possible alternative route before resorting to restraining him.

He has you by his side now, and, if he is sedated, he will not be remembering Friday's troubles, but just drifting half asleep. He will have forgotten. You are by him, holding his hand - that is all he will be aware of - and we are here holding yours. flowers

Oh Printmiss I am so sorry to hear this sad news. You have frequently mentioned Robert in your posts and he is obviously a lovely and much loved son. It puts some of the problems most of us have into perspective. My thoughts will be with you and your family today. Keep us posted when you feel up to it. Hugs.

printmiss I'm so sorry you and your son have had to go through this trauma although clearly it was so important to get him treated. I hope you have some better news about his condition today. flowers

I don't know what to say PRINTMISS except that you were so brave to write this down and share it with GN. I do hope your lovely boy now gets the treatment he needs with the minimum of pain and upset to both him and yourselves. Sometimes we are forced to stand on the sidelines helplessly and let things unfold. It is terribly sad. Thinking about you and your son. flowers

I'm immensely sorry to read this, Printmiss. I'm glad you have the support of your family, and send all good wishes in the days and weeks to come. flowers

How dreadful for you. I think you have to remind yourself that we say cruel to be kind for a reason. Sometimes things get out of our hands. I am crying for you here and can only offer my kindest thoughts.

annsixty Sun 19-Jul-15 08:01:30

Oh poor you and him. I am nearly in tears myself just thinking how you must feel and how you are powerless to help him. All I can really say is you will be in everyone's thoughts and prayers. No practical help I'm afraid just love for you all. flowers

Our lovely son was taken into hospital on Friday - he was bleeding both ends. He was absolutely terrified! He refused point blank to go in the ambulance, and the staff where he lives were trying to persuade him. One of them telephoned me in the hope I could help, but when I arrived he was in a terrible state, and past reasoning with. His blood pressure was on the floor and there was a very real likely hood that he would die. It was impossible to give him a sedative because his heart rate was fluctuating. Everything was done to try to get him into the ambulance, his social worker was called, and in the end the police, because be is a vulnerable person who was being difficult and needed special care. In the end they managed to get him out of the house, then eventually on to the trolley where they had to strap him down and then hand-cuff him. I am devastated that my beautiful happy son had to be treated like this, but I know it was necessary, and to be quite honest, the policemen and social worker were visibly upset. I keep seeing Robert lying on that trolley struggling against the straps and getting more and more upset. My husband is trying to be sensible about it, but is equally upset, fortunately I have a great daughter and son-in-law, and the staff who care for Robert treat us like their family - they too were really totally at a loss as to what to do. The staff at the hospital were beyond reproach, Robert had finally settled when he got there, but was still being difficult. Yesterday he was very sedated, they are keeping him that way for the moment, he is just frightened by all that is happening. I know I should not think like this, but I keep seeing our lovely son, who would not hurt a fly, being treated like a criminal with the hand cuffs and strapping, and although I know that it was for the best, I cannot help but feel that he feels like that too. Oh!, I am so upset that this happened to him, and now there is nothing I can do but sit beside him and hold his hand. I thought I would feel better writing it all down, but the tears are streaming down my face, and I really do not want my other half to see this, as it upsets him even more. I realise our son might die, but I hate what has happened, and that he might die hating us all for the way he has been treated.
