I dont remember getting any until I was about 15. After that, my parents were not generous as money was tight around then.

Yes and no. More no. I have friends and relatives who like to bring back souvenirs from their trips, so they buy me pens as I like them and they are useful.

[personally my kids loved their guinea pigs. Just saying in case Falconbird was asking for a good reason. Hope you dont mind me saying AshTree]
