Prince William and the Air Ambulance

It's not often that I say anything positive about the royal family but I am impressed that Prince William is working on the Air Ambulance. He could have stayed in his cotton wooled privileged lifestyle but he's actually doing a job that's worthwhile and really helps other people.

messed that up didn't I

Do you always...

jinglbellsfrocks Thu 16-Jul-15 13:37:34

Do allays pick holes in anything and everyone annie?

jinglbellsfrocks Thu 16-Jul-15 13:36:32

Well - if the captain or whoever it was, was stumbling over a choice of word, it would be pretty unreasonable not to help him out. hmm

For flip's sake!!! hmm

Anniebach Thu 16-Jul-15 13:33:45

Arrogant to advise his captain what to call him ,unless the captain asked him what name or title should he use - which I doubt

jinglbellsfrocks Thu 16-Jul-15 13:24:08

merlot's version sounds much more believable.

jinglbellsfrocks Thu 16-Jul-15 13:23:24

Oh yes! I remember that. Do you really believe it? Not sure I do.

I didn't expect, or hope it to be, "something smutty"! thank you very much! hmm Bloomin' cheek!

Irenelily Thu 16-Jul-15 11:42:31

I doubt Prince William is "taking a job that someone needing to support a family" could be doing! Only if they have the training - and if they do have it, they would have plenty of choice for a job. It isn't something anyone could do! I have knowledge of this, as a family member has recently retired from Air/Sea Rescue and a high level of expertise is required.
At least he's doing something useful - well done him!

Anniebach Thu 16-Jul-15 11:25:52

Then two seperate conversations Merlotgran

merlotgran Thu 16-Jul-15 10:47:28

I think the conversation is supposed to have taken place in the ward room. Prince Andrew allegedly suggested the captain should call him Andrew and the captain replied, 'And you can call me Sir!'

Anniebach Thu 16-Jul-15 10:19:35

Jingle, nothing smutty sorry , there was some stutterering over his name, your HRH or prince etc. He announced - just call me Sir, this to fellow officers , just another ordinary sailor !

Anniebach Thu 16-Jul-15 10:13:53

What is so different Vampirequeen , they did the armed forces as did previous generations and they certainly enjoy the same lifestyles , their careers now are really spending their time on their favourite hobbies , W is doing something useful but I doubt he will have to fill in his holiday leave application as the rest will

jinglbellsfrocks Thu 16-Jul-15 10:05:56

Anniebach what did Andrew say on the bridge?! shock

Sorry absent. grin

vampirequeen Thu 16-Jul-15 09:59:24

I don't feel motherly towards him. I just think at least he's trying to do something rather than simply wait around for his grandmother and father to die.

If it is the reinvention of the Windsors, well at least some good is coming out of this version.

annodomini Thu 16-Jul-15 09:53:53

absent. Wild applause! grin

Anniebach Thu 16-Jul-15 09:49:35

gillybob, they have an excellent PR machine . I couldn't care less if W works 7 days or 1 day a week I just don't like this 'these two are just like us' which is just not true, just a new way of selling the windsors

I do understand that many feel motherly and protective towards these two men who will always be 'Diana's boys' when they are fifty. But not for me, each generation of Windsors become what the public want , it keeps them popular, they are brilliant at reinventing themselves

absent Thu 16-Jul-15 09:06:50

Does any of it matter?

gillybob Thu 16-Jul-15 08:14:01

I work with all men and they do "banter" between themselves. Not the way women do but in a slightly different way. Mostly Mickey taking of each other , and pulling each other up on anything. They are of a wide age range too and from different walks of life with different levels of qualifications from masters degrees to labourers. They are all the same. I honestly cannot see PW joining in with the kind of "men talk" I often hear.

gillybob Thu 16-Jul-15 08:07:52

Going back in the thread I agree with Anniebach my DD's ex was in Afghanistan when Harry was flown in and out. According to S it was mostly a publicity stunt to make "the people" back home believe he was "one of the lads".

Not sure about PW. He does seem okay from what we can see from a few staged photographs but given his "royal duties" he's hardly going to be a full timer with the air ambulance is he? I don't really care one way or t'other as I have no time for any of the royals. They are just people like the rest of us, pity they didn't realize it though.

Leticia Thu 16-Jul-15 07:11:35

Thank goodness for that! Do people really want their work colleagues telling them all that? hmm
I certainly wouldn't be giving them all that information about my MIL etc.

Anniebach Wed 15-Jul-15 22:18:46

Ceesnan , I have never said I know, I have given my opinion. For me it's common sense , he will not unwind with a mug of tea and say much about home life, yes the baby is teething and we are shattered etc, will he say my mother in law will interfere ? I don't get on with my step mother? God my father can go on and on . Why do they keep within a circle ? Because they dare not chat as we do , and who can blame them. A chap in the navy told the press what Andrew said on the bridge . Those who think William will feel free to chat about everything may be right, I don't, he and his brother were damaged by their mother's friends telling all , it's obvious he will never let his children suffer as he and his brother did . He is constantly on guard poor man

Here is the report of Price William's first EAAA flight.

www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-cambridgeshire-33537719

I am a community first responder here in East Anglia and if I meet him on a call out I will be polite and helpful as always with all the emergency services staff. I have a lot of respect for all of them, and I was with an ambulance crew this morning on two successive calls. They were endlessly polite, good-humoured and deeply concerned for the welfare of their patients.

Ceesnan Wed 15-Jul-15 19:28:50

I'm not sure how you are so certain what PW and his colleagues won't be able to talk about? It's just your opinion, to which, of course, you are entitled, but that's all it is, just as others have theirs. No one can possibly know what a group of workmates will discuss - it's pure speculation.

Anniebach Wed 15-Jul-15 19:27:23

I am sure he is not going to do the ' call me sir' thing as previous generations have, he seems a likeable man

jinglbellsfrocks Wed 15-Jul-15 19:24:53

Helicopter? Perhaps he's got his own.

merlotgran Wed 15-Jul-15 19:17:58

Surely he won't be driving all the way back to Anmer Hall after every shift?

Holiday traffic is a nightmare on that road. hmm
