I had one when I was young, gave her a bath in the bathroom sink and her head fell off - and her arms and legs...

What more is there to tell? (She'd not a faux baby. She is a Rosebud baby doll from the fifties. Sorry if I misled you)

Ther head came off my baby doll when I put her summer clothes on. But she must be 64 by now.

Yes, DD desperately wanted one of those for her fourth birthday and I spent the whole of the previous evening, after she'd gone to bed, cuddling it! It was lovely - wish I still had it...

I think I could do with one of these dolls as I am much more stable when walking with a pushchair rather than a stick. I would look a bit daft with an empty pushchair!

I saw this program as well, I think it was a couple of years ago.
Weird was what I thought. It also sounds very sad I could understand wanting to cuddle one but taking it out in a pram is very odd.

I still have DD's soft bodied doll in my house and I have to say that having this doll lying over your shoulder is a very good feeling.
It is cuddly like a real small baby but with the advantage of not burping up any feed down the back of your jumper.

Years ago, when I had flu, my son aged about 9 came into the bedroom and tucked a large knitted mouse in with me( in case I needed it') stifling the desire to laugh , I kept it in the bed, and guess what, it was rather nice!

True Ana, it's not hurting anybody, and perhaps after a while, the need to do this will go away, and the woman could get on with her life.The dolls themselves do look very realistic.

It seems weird to some of us, but it's harmless and as said, these dolls are filling a void in the women's lives.

I watched a similar (if not the same) programme a couple of years ago and none of the doll-owners seemed sad or to be pitied. Better to pamper a 'pretend' baby than spend thousands on bling and spray tans for a real one...

I still like cuddly toys and am happy that I can justify keeping Teddy and Puppy so that the DGCs (ostensibly) can play with them !

Could it be a commercial enterprise taking advantage of these poor women? There is something weird about the way they dressed, cuddled and walked these 'babies'.

yes, I find them creepy too, but enough of them are sold to see that there is a need out there.

Saw these on a video online recently and quite frankly I found them beyond creepy. Fine if they're for children to play with, but for childless women to fill a gap in their lives, taking a silicone doll out in a pram? I find that rather disturbing.

I feel desperately sorry for women in that situation and cannot begin to imagine the heartache of yearning for a child that never arrives. They need support, counselling, friendship, not silicone dolls.

My DD and I have a friend, around my age, who has never been blessed with children. When my DD found out she was pregnant, our friend was so pleased for her and said how sad she felt that not having children meant she also missed out on being a grandmother, while all her friends were enjoying this role. My DD immediately asked her if she would like to be her baby's honorary GM as, being a single mum, her baby would only have one set of grandparents. She was so overcome, accepting the offer with tears in her eyes. She visited today with a bagful of presents for the baby and promises to visit again soon. I am so proud of my DD to give her this gift, which means more to our friend than words can say.

So sad this. I am very grateful for what I have.

Interestingly, a friend had a young bitch which she got spayed. The poor animal then had a phantom pregnancy, and used to walk around with a cuddly toy which she looked after lovingly and protectively, even tucking it into her belly as if feeding.

Yes , Lys I think it is. one rather sad case was a woman who, with her husband had looked after her little grandson since he was a baby , her daughter was a single mum and battling cancer. now, five years on, the daughter recovered fully, met an Aussie man, fell in Love and moved with the little boy to live with him ( in OZ) and the woman was devastated.She missed him so much that it felt unbearable, so she ordered a doll that looked very like her grandson as a baby.When she went to collect it, her husband hated it and said it repelled him.However, she loved it and took it home, and said that nobody would be able to take it away from her.
this programme just resonated with me because I have been watching Humans, the TV series about robots /androids.Thinking, if this ever came to pass in the future ( like AI) the film, people really would want artificial babies / children.

I think they need to get a life, a hobby or anything rather than carry on like that.
