So why make him look like and ordinary little boy?

The reference to Little Lord Fauntleroy made me smile, not least because that's what little George really is however much we like to disguise the fact. I know, that is I've read in some newspaper or other, that his parents want him to have as 'normal' a childhood as possible. I sincerely wish them good luck with that but it's a losing battle in the long run. He's a direct heir to the throne. He's not ordinary normal and never will be, even if he abdicates in due course.

Our news in NZ (where they are very keen on the Cambridges and Prince Harry) said that Prince George's outfit for this occasion was a copy of one that the young Duke of Cambridge wore when he went to the hospital to greet his new baby brother. Surely, it would have been massively old-fashioned then; perhaps that was a copy of something his father had worn when he was tiny tot. Weird!

I thought the Duchess of Cambridge's outfit was cream rather than white.

I thought it was lovely. But I always do a double take at George's clothes- they are so much like what my brothers would have worn for best in 1950s and seem odd today.

I was Christened. Nobody asked me if I wanted to be...

It hasn't made any difference, I'm glad to say.

If they didnt opt for "traditional" and "classic", they would start to look a bit more like normal folk!

I like those coach built prams, much more substantial and can be used for much longer than the (very expensive) flimsy things that are pushed around nowadays. We had a Silver Cross one, but cream and beige, not black, bought secondhand, for our first 3, but by the time number 4 came along it was looking it`s age, so was changed for a more modern version, but still a decent size. I think that Prince George looked lovely, as did his mum.

Brought back memories of DS's christening. We walked to church, a good few miles, pushing the pram and with DD on the seat on the top. It wasn't a Silver Cross unfortunately, we had moved to a modern house and had to buy a smaller Mothercare soft bodied pram.

I think the pram was just a traditiional touch - a buggy would have looked a bit wrong for such an important occasion.

I expect Kate and Wills have one of those three-wheelers for when they take her out on their own!

I thought she would have got on much better with the baby tied to her, but I suppose it's a bit too much hippy tree hugger for a christening. I,m so glad all my GC's clothes come from ebay and not these twee little companies with their smocking and pearl buttons

Ah! Perhaps she needed that big wheeled pram to get up that muddy slope! (Just seen it on the news) Perhaps a modern smaller wheeled pram would have got stuck.

Didnt see it but that Norland Nanny outfit is the most ghastly of colours. Yellow and Brown.

We laughed at the shot of Kate having to dig in, pushing the pram up a muddy slope (in those shoes?) whilst William dawdled behind and the nanny was nowhere in sight.

Most ordinary homes would find it hard to accommodate a big Silver Cross or Marmet coach style pram. How did people manage in the past?? I was pushed about in one and I have pics of DH in one too! I remember my brother (now in his 50s) wearing that style romper suit. I do agree it is a bit odd not to dress the little person in something more contemporary, especially now he is a toddler and not a babe in arms. 'Poor' little bugger with his hair all brushed and long socks! How cruel

Looking at the news reports, the thought occurred to me - "What are these young people doing, living in the 1950s?" Their choice, of course... or at least I suppose it is.

Why white for the mother? and George looked so old fashioned.As you can guess I am not a royalist but a joyful family occaision,which is what it was,does not need to be celebrated in the public eye. It is private and most people would want it to be kept that way. It is enough to have a healthy lovely baby and to give thanks for that instead of indulging in a public spectacle and a fashion show. Oh what sour grapes on my part you can all call me out on it if you choose.

I wheeled my DS1 to his christening in a Marmet coachbuilt pram in February 1970. It was a freezing cold day and he was lovely and warm wrapped up in the pram.I did not wear all white though, I was not ''elegant''at all!.
I think the retro suit Prince George wore was only for the christening photos.I wonder if he kept still in the church?. When my DS2 was christened DS1 could not keep still, he ran round the church all the time and DS2 screamed his head off, I think he must hold the record for the baby who cried the most during their baptism.

I like them. But you have to be honest don't you? Kate usually does so well.

Oh dear, I'm definitely getting old. I've taken on the "Aren't they all wonderful and don't they all look lovely?"mantle that once belonged to my MIL. My own Durham miner stock DP would have been wishing them all in Hell.

I think the baby is going to take after her maternal grandmother. Got that slightly swarthy look.
