I don't know how on earth they can do it but I regularly get these type of phone calls (accident etc) on the INTERNAL line in the room I counsel in one of our local schools. How can they connect to an internal line. You can use it to get an outside line but have to dial 9 first

Someone has sent me an idea on Facebook. The next time someone phones before they get the chance to speak I'm going to whisper, "I've got rid of the body but there is so much blood," then put the phone down.

Wouldn't I just love to have a smart Alec response to these bl**dy people, but I never manage it!

Chuggers work on commission, plus the company that employs them takes a cut so very little of your donation actually gets to the charity.

When the Microsoft tech department phone calls first stated I rang my internet provider to check whether it was a scam and was told that the only way anyone can see what your computer is or has downloaded is for them to be connected to it - so when they say your computer has downloaded an illegal file, tell them to go procreate with themselves!!

I heard someone on local radio this week say that when she gets a call from a number she doesn't recognise or is withheld (obviously has caller ID) she picks up the phone and says "On to our next caller - thank you for ringing Radio ........ you are on the air" She said that usually results in their immediately hanging up!!

Has anyone else had a phone call asking you to subscribe to a scheme where you get monthly free hmm vouchers to use in places where you probably never go?

The annual subscription is something like £60 and guess what....If you can't use the vouchers you can give them to a friend or member of the family.

When I asked DD if she'd be likely to make use of vouchers to use in places where it would cost an arm and a leg in petrol to get to she said, ' No thanks but you can give me the £60 if you like!! grin

Who thinks these things up??

Did anyone else watch The One Show? They have produced a letter to send to charities to take you off their lists.

If they do not, you can get in touch with the Ombudsman.

Actually, my computer did explode about two years ago. I was working on it, heard a big bang, then smoke.
I took it to my really helpful computer guy for repair....... he just looked at me and raised his eyebrows.... "seriously, you want me to repair this" ??
He built us a new computer smile

I have had quite a few calls 'from Microsoft'. I dislike swearing but last time I was expecting an important call and raced through the house to pick up the phone and when I was told I had problems with my computer I screamed 'P... O..'. then looked round and the windows were open and my neighbours must have heard. Oh well.

I've heard that, too, kitty. I saw one chap trying to get a young woman to give him money for one of the charities (can't remember which one, now), and she had told him she only had a £5 note. He leaned forward and looked in her purse and said, "No, I can see you have more than that, actually!" Poor lass did end up giving him the fiver angry.

I think they are on commission Marelli! angry

One of mine this morning rang back obviously assuming we had been accidentally cut off.

He was a 'chugger', vampirequeen. A Charity Mugger. I do believe these people aren't volunteers, but do receive a wage hmm?

Oh I want to get this phone call so I can vent all my pent up frustration built after up after a weekend of having to see my cantankerous MIL and my raging hypochondriac, control freak of a BIL.angry

DD's friend has a congenital hip deformity which means she always walks with the aid of a crutch. She got so angry about being constantly stopped in the city centre that she threatened to take them to court for harassment. Word soon got round not to stop the nutty girl with the crutch grin.

I once got stopped by a young man who wanted my bank details for a charity opposed to seal killing in Canada. He went on and on and just wouldn't take no for an answer. I tried going into shops but he waited for me to come out and started again. Finally I told him that if he didn't leave me alone I would go to the nearest travel agent, book a flight to Canada, find and seal cub and club it to death.

I have never seen someone disappear so quickly grin.

I was walking through our town centre last week and was approached by a lovely young fellow who asked me if I'd had an accident in the last 10 years. I asked him if he'd had an accident? He replied that he hadn't - to which I answered, "Well, when you do have one, you'll know where to go, won't you?" I was so pleased with myself grin!

Mishap Mon 15-Jun-15 16:14:25

Vampire grin - aren't these calls a real pain? I had one earlier today - I did not stay on the line long enough to establish exactly what he wanted.

vampirequeen Mon 15-Jun-15 16:11:35

I'm so looking forward to this phone call. It will make such a pleasant change from PPI and the accident I appeared to have in the last two years which obviously left me with amnesia as I have no recollection of it.

downtoearth Mon 15-Jun-15 12:47:26

have also had a call from a man telling me they where technical support told him to p**ss off ...guess what he p****d off, already feeling pretty angered by something else today so he got both barrels..

kittylester Mon 15-Jun-15 12:26:50

according to the two nice men who rang me to warn me and try to help me stop it happening. sunshine

So, if I am not on GN for a while you will know that it was because they were right and I was wrong to tell them that they were flipping con men!! angry
