I wish I could...

...sit at the kitchen table and eat half a loaf of seeded bread thickly spread with butter and chunky cut orange marmalade.

But it's Sunday and there's a dinner to cook. hmm

Anyone else got any "I wishes"?

This is especially for you chloe1984

I wish I could turn back the clock so I could attend all my dental check ups and take care of my teeth.

I wish i could spring back up from the floor when at music and dance with 15 month DGS and not have to shuffle to get my balance before I stand up... when did that happen!!!!!

jenn Sun 24-May-15 20:52:21

I wish my back was 30 years younger.

AshTree Sun 24-May-15 19:50:48

We often have a 'proper roast' on a Sunday - not today, though, as we had an old favourite that my mum used to cook and we all love it too: roast gammon with onion sauce, new potatoes and veg. And the veg just has to include carrots, just because that's how my mum used to do it!

pompa that's not a bad idea, might just do that (opens up a new tab and googles bath aids)

I wish I could sit comfortably in any chair I encounter instead of having to look around for one that will not leave my back twinging for the next two days. In so many places I just cannot sit comfortably at all.

I wish I could speak several languages.
Like Galen, I wish my feet didn't hurt.
I wish someone else would cook Sunday dinner and invite me. It's not something I'd do for just me so it's about twenty years since I last did it.

Walk without feeling like the little mermaid who felt that she was walking on knife blades

J52 Sun 24-May-15 18:22:27

Sing, I would love to sing in tune. Tried, but it's hopeless. I envy those who can! x

jinglbellsfrocks Sun 24-May-15 17:40:51

I cook a Sunday lunch as it's an excuse to eat jam and cake for Sunday tea.

Speaking of which..... smile

jinglbellsfrocks Sun 24-May-15 17:38:53

Those very deep, "Victorian" looking baths you sometimes get in holiday cottages, scare the life out of me. The sides are too high to get your hands onto to lift yourself up. I have to turn round in the water and kneel, then get up from there. Not good. And the cottage owners always highlight them as being something luxurious. hmm

I'm alright in my own bath.

ninathenana Sun 24-May-15 17:31:03

I wish........

I was slim
I was fit and agile
I could sing in tune
I could paint better than I can

There are a number on the market. One that inflates is best, don't go for one where you sit on a strap that lowers you.
I recently looked at some for a friend's mum.

rosesarered Sun 24-May-15 17:23:26

Poor you, Ash tree.On the other hand I always shower rather than have a bath, just because I prefer it.
I don't cook Sunday lunch either, we have the main meal in the evenings usually, and I only do a roast if we have visitors, in which case it's the easiest thing to cook.Stop worrying about weight everyone! enjoy life.

pompa Sun 24-May-15 17:12:50

Ashtree, look for an aid that will help you get out, worth it for the luxury of those bubbles.

AshTree Sun 24-May-15 16:47:00

Oh I've just thought of another 'I wish I could'! I really, really wish I could have a bath, just lie back in a lovely warm bath filled with heavenly scented bath products and close my eyes and enjoy it. But I haven't been able to do that for a long while now because once I get in a bath I absolutely cannot get out of it. The last time I tried, about 2 years ago, I actually started to panic. I was alone in the house (DH playing golf I think), and I had visions of having to stay where I was, with the water growing cold, until he came home and could help me to get out. I did eventually manage to get to my knees and then climb out, but I swore then and there, NEVER again. I do so miss it though sad

pompa Sun 24-May-15 16:38:53

No Gliding in a glider, no engine, almost always just two people sitting tandem. You rely on finding thermal up-currents to climb.

soontobe Sun 24-May-15 16:28:20

Gliding as in a small plane?
I did do that once. I think there were 3 of us in the plane? Myself and a friend, and the pilot?
A bunch of us did it from work.
I cant say I remember the upcurrents. I do remember it being eerily silent. And hoping we would land safely!
And that it didnt cost a lot.
Perhaps I should brave it again. I dont live very close to where they do it I dont think, but yes, thank you for the reminder.

tandem flights would be even scarier Greyduster! Though I dont think I will ever rule it out completely.

loopylou Sun 24-May-15 16:26:12

DH and DD are glider pilots, DH is Duty Pilot today so I have peace and quiet.
My 90 year old DF went up last year, and loved it, so age is no excuse grin

Personally you wouldn't get me anywhere near one, I hate heights and have a strong sense of self preservation. Aeronautics don't make sense to me however many times it's explained to me by DH and Aeronautical Engineer DS.

If I were a bird it would have to be of the non-flying variety, probably an ostrich grin

pompa Sun 24-May-15 16:14:37

Soontobe, gliding (not hang gliding) is as close to being a bird as you can safely get, rising on the up-currents is amazing. Age is no limit, most gliding clubs offer trial lessons for very little cost.

Greyduster Sun 24-May-15 15:51:11

Hang gliding has to be the closest - you can get tandem flights! (No, I wouldn't either!)

HildaW Sun 24-May-15 15:51:05

Oh the tyranny of Sunday lunches! My poor mother had to do them no matter how she felt and even after we had all left home. I only do them when visitors are due.

I am more than happy to tell O.H. 'I am not cooking today ...I fancy bread and cheese'.....but I do have make sure there is a steak and kidney pie in the freezer he can have!

soontobe Sun 24-May-15 15:39:22

Fly. Definitely fly. I have always watched the birds, and thought "you lucky things".
I used to spread my arms out as a child, and see if I could somehow manage it!
I am too chicken/afraid of hurting myself, to go gliding. And it is not really the same as actually being able to just fly.

annodomini Sun 24-May-15 15:32:59

I wish I could summon up the energy to tackle the jungle of weeds in my garden. Anyone here know where I can get a machete?

Greyduster Sun 24-May-15 15:27:04

I wish I could go back to the pristine river in the wooded valley we walked through yesterday, where the trout were taking mayfly off the top and I didn't have a rod and linesad. But today is gardening day and preparing-for-the-family-tommorrow day.......
