pompa no problem stayed a wallflower until Mr Chloe swept me off my feet at the Fiddlers one never to be forgotten night around 1969.

Sorry Chloe I was courting Mrs P then, we met when she was 16. We used to go to the Tottenham Royal, Ilford Palais, Brentwood Meads and the Basidon Locarno along with various jazz clubs and small music venues.

pompa moonlight time was when the mirror ball went round and round and flooded the floor with starlight ( all a bit cheesy but I loved it so much) it was also the time that I wondered if anyone would EVER pick me to dance with before I had to run to catch the 25 bus home.

Mishap how amazing, we might have worked together! I worked there throughout the summer of 1966. And oh yes, the bottom pinching!
I remember on a couple of occasions being asked to help in the workshop filling cartons with ice-cream for sale in local shops. The machinery couldn't be stopped so we had to form a conveyer belt: me popping open the flat packed cartons and handing them one at a time to the Italian guy. He filled it from the machine and then passed it to someone else to do up the flaps and stack in the freezer. The rhythm couldn't be broken, so when I dropped one of the cartons on the floor, awash with filthy ice-cream, I naturally left it there and picked up another one quickly. Oh no! Can't waste them! Dirty one had to be picked up, wiped on the front of the Italian guy's once white coat, and filled with ice-cream. And they all smoked while doing this - cigarettes hanging from their lips because both hands were in constant use.
It did rather put me off ice-cream for quite a while

The Merry Fiddlers pub Dagenham on a Friday night , the Ilford Palais on Saturday nights and Southend on Sea bank holiday weekends another Essex girl here and proud of it.

Grummpa, I lived in Cobbold Road, spent most of my time on Wanstead flats, that was where I got my love of aero modelling.

AshTree - I too worked at Rossis ice cream parlour and had my bottom pinched - do you have that privilege!

I also worked in a children's home near Southend sea front in the summer before I went to uni - it was a dreadful cruel place and left a lasting impression on me.

I certainly don't see the TOWIE look in Essex any more than any other part of the country, it is a minority, (the majority don't take the limelight)

Mind you I am pumping out ZZZZZ's when the TOWIE species comes out.
The last club I went to was the Legion.

We could go on the dodgem cars at the Kursaal, then enjoy a pint of winkles and a pint.

Another Essex man and Leytonstone teenager here, pompa; not our fault they moved the boundaries in the sixties. Could the two of us cope with the white-heeled Essex girls?

Pompa, if all the Essex girls ever met up ( doubtful, as we all live in different places now) you do know that we would all have to wear white high heeled shoes don't you?With tanned and waxed legs . you can be an honorary Essex girl even though you are a boy.

hi all, I have found he clubhouse!I am from the frozen North, but moved to Walthamstow in the late 60's, then married and we lived in Ilford for a while, then to Rayleigh for a few years, where I worked in the library.Southend was the place to go if you wanted a nice meal out, there was a place called Oskars in Leigh-on-Sea, and we belonged to a badminton club there as well.What was the department store called, was it Dingles?In the centre of Southend.Went to quite a few shows at The Cliffs Pavilion too.Happy days!
