News just in from soop: marvellous day in every way; cherry on the cake was The Wee Man, her youngest grandchild, being there. She sends love to all the kitcheners.

I love Tenby we took my kids there when they were about 5 & 7. They adored visiting playing in all the lovely castles on the coast around there.

Of course you will pompa- she who is always obeyed will be none the wiser! Mrs.P does not know what she is missing!

Enjoy your meal and I hope that the weather is good for you tomorrow. We hope to hear from you of course!

Arrived in St. Florence (nr Tenby), lovely cottage. Off to the pub for dinner now - holiday starts here - under orders to leave GN alone for a week sad
He He, I had my fingers crossed when I said "of course" grin

Charleygirl Fri 29-May-15 23:00:35

Enjoy your holiday pompa. I hope that you get some decent sunshine.

Mishap Fri 29-May-15 19:07:50

Enjoy pompa - I love the coast path looking over the sparkling sea - I cannot get enough of it. I actually managed some walking on the path this year - or limping to be precise. Very slow but that did not detract from the views. I will miss the sea tomorrow. The weather was interesting pompa - I would set out with sunglasses, a sunhat, a scarf and my sheepskin earmuffs - all were used. We had lots of sun, but it was very windy indeed.

I went to 4 superb concerts in the cathedral festival in St Davids - they were wonderful.

loopylou Fri 29-May-15 18:26:18

Have a lovely holiday pompa, and send us forewarnings of any decent weather heading this way!

pompa Fri 29-May-15 18:09:06

Mishap, I hope you left some good weather behind, we are heading for Pembrokeshire in the morning.

Mishap Fri 29-May-15 18:05:17

Out of the loop here as just returned from wonderful family holiday in Pembrokeshire. I shall miss the little ones knocking on the door of our cottage first thing to visit the ancient grandparents in their little love nest and clamber all over the bed. But I am looking forward to a lie-in!

Aw, bless him, I used to love Arthur Askey.

janerowena Fri 29-May-15 14:58:36

The song after that one, if you can stick it out, is the Ying Tang song! grin

janerowena Fri 29-May-15 14:57:42

No - shall google!

I did wonder how soop was getting on, I hope the weather is ok for the wedding.

Oh heavens! grin www.youtube.com/watch?v=A2skW43HNpE

I found myself listening to the humming in my bedroom this morning, and fantasising about putting a hive in the loft! DBH is getting a bit fed up with no being able to turn on lights or open the window, though. We are getting nowhere with help of any kind, though. If they cleared off like wasps, it wouldn't be so bad, but we can't live without lighting over the winter.

Gagagran Fri 29-May-15 13:35:43

Just caught up with the thread after a busy few days and reading of janer's bee problem has had me singing Arthur Askey's Busy bee song. Anyone else remember it? smile

Charleygirl Fri 29-May-15 13:06:20

I agree Harrigran but we did choose a beautiful outfit for her!!!!

harrigran Fri 29-May-15 13:04:02

Thanks for the update bags. It's lovely to think of soop and MacSporran enjoying being in the bosom of their family.

soop, last spotted on a busy motorway in Yorkshire on her way to her grand-daughter's wedding and family fun (she is feeling very excited), sends her love to the Kitcheners.

I loved the story about the honey falling down the chimney!

We are waiting for a bee-retrieving company to call us. The association won't touch bees in lofts - I did wonder. This company is very busy and very expensive-sounding but dbh is determined. In the meantime I am sitting on my bed having a decaf coffee and surveying the contents of my big cupboard - it would appear that dbh wasn't asconscientious about filling in gaps behind the chimney as he could have been! So everything had to come out, gaps filled, I am sorting it out and putting it back again. It really isn't pleasant to wake up to half a dozen bees. We can't open the window because the entrance is right next to it!

janerowena Wed 27-May-15 22:06:33

There do seem to be a lot around here, several of my friends have seen swarms and two have them in their houses, but they are old houses and the bees turn up every year. We don't want that!

rosequartz Wed 27-May-15 21:41:03

There seem to be a lot of bees swarming this year (which is good when they are not in your house!). Or are they getting confused about where they are supposed to be?

janerowena Wed 27-May-15 21:36:23

Yes, they are honeybees - DBH is a bit of an expert on insects, but even he doesn't want them in our bedroom and upstairs bathroom, which was where they were when we investigated. So they are coming down through the loft floor, where the holes are cut for the recessed downlighting. I went upstairs while DBH looked up the local beekeeping association, we will ring tomorrow. What we have done for now is put a piece of sellotaped cardboard over every single downlight we can reach - all ten of them, only one we really can't get to. We shall be living in the light of bedside lights and shaving mirror only until the problem is solved. I can see me forgetting about the ones on the landing though.

When we moved here there was a big empty space between our room and DS's, which went over the hallway, we worked out. So DBH decided to knock it through and make us each a big storage cupboard. When he did, he discovered that no, the buzzing noise I had been complaining of really hadn't been in my imagination. The wasp's nest was almost as big as he was. We still have some of it as a souvenir - and the smaller but complete one next to it!

Until we realised that we had a problem, I was just gaily letting bees out of the windows and remarking to DBH that we had an awful lot more of them in the house than usual. When I went upstairs after I wrote my first post on the matter, there were dozens on the carpet, none moving, but a couple of dozen more behind the blind on the window sill, still alive. If there had been only one or two I think we would have just slept with the windows open and the blinds up.
