Open book and start reading

I usually get up 7:30ish, put the kettle on for a brew and get showered and dressed. I can't lie comfortably in bed to read or such like, so its better to get in a chair if I want to slob around then.

I get up after I waken usually about 7.30. It's great being retired as before I was up during the week at 6.30. Go to bathroom for ablutions, get dressed, let my constant companion out, my little dog! Bring her in feed her give her fresh water. She was four in March. I got her when she was about seven weeks. Give her a cuddle and tell her she's a clever dog. Make cup of tea take meds. Have breakfast which consists of gluten free muslie with some plain yogurt and some fresh fruit which ever fruit is the cheapest on offer and a cup of decaff tea. I use the same teabag all day as I don't like strong tea! Feed my lovely black cat give her fresh water, give her a cuddle and tell her she's a good pussycat, she will be sixteen at the end of the month, she was born here. Clean her litter tray. Wash hands, clean teeth. Put some makeup on, not much just a little to make me look younger! Ha Ha! Make a cup of decaff coffee. Read Gransnet and reply if anything is relevant to me, deal with emails. If it's a nice day will get ready and take my constant companion out for a walk and I talk to neighbours and some visitors etc as nearly everyone wants to talk to my little dog as she is very friendly! Come home and catch up with my volunteering work. By this time it's nearly lunchtime. So this is usually my morning routine.

I'm boring in my routine; up, washed, dressed, quick coffee out the door by 7.30 on weekdays.
Weekends I still wake up early but don't get dressed until I've had a coffee, then it's clean house top to bottom-we're out all day during the week- and get washing and ironing done (usually do a load or two during the week)

Very predictable sad

DBH brings me a huge mug of tea at 7.30 - he gets up at 5.30 to do his marking. He leaves at 7.45, I have usually drunk my tea by 8 and slowly wake up. I creak my way out of bed, and go downstairs to make a strong coffee. depending on what I am doing that day, I either go back up with it and get washed and dressed, or back to bed for an hour and read emails, facebook messages from DCs etc., look at Kindle offers, have a look at eBay to see what I am meant to be watching that day, check the calendar to make sure I am not meant to be somewhere, then sort out all washing to be done and have a quick clean of the bathroom, go downstairs and make my boiled eggs and yet more coffee. Have a look at any songs I may have to learn, do housework/cooking/shopping/paperwork.

If I can and the weather permits, I garden in the afternoons. I pop on here when I am having a coffee or teabreak, or lunch. Again when I get back from going out to whatever. It's calming. I know some people may not think that gransnet is calming at times, but if you have songs or knitting patterns or things villagers want you to do whirring around in your head, it really is. And I watch very little TV.

I've never been able to stay in bed in the mornings, well not since my teens that is. In the bad old days it was probably because I wanted to get up and have a fag shockblush. These days it's because I always, unfailingly, wake up in desperate need of a pee, so I have to get out of bed straight away. I know I could crawl back under the covers, but I have never really seen the point - I just get fidgety smile

ginny Wed 06-May-15 09:06:49

The only routine I have is that I get up have breakfast and check e-mails etc. What time or anything else it all depends what is happening on any particular day. Not one to lay in bed late though.

jenn Tue 05-May-15 22:02:13

The dog walk sorts out the joints, they creak every time I get up.....the joys of getting older.

ninathenana Tue 05-May-15 18:18:16

jenn I haven't stayed in bed that long since I was in my 20's. I'm not against the idea but I just get restless and need too get up and get the joints working grin

jenn Tue 05-May-15 17:54:40

I am a slob!! Maybe it's living alone but I have no set routine it depends on the weather. On a rainy day apart from letting the dogs out I stay in bed until 11 .A good book and radio 4 are the best bed companions. If the sun is shining the dogs and I are out early then back for breakfast before deciding what I want to do.

NanaDenise Tue 05-May-15 16:35:38

Wake at 5.20
DBH gets up, lets hens out and take dog out briefly then brings me coffee in bed and takes a shower and runs my bath.smile
6.00 Get out of bed, totter to bathroom and have bathe with 2nd cuo of coffee, dressed by 6.45 and call twins to get up and dressed for college
Walk the dog (unless chauffeuring GD)
Have breakfast - also prepared by DBH.
Sweep floor in kitchen, clear breakfast things, hang out washing if it is dry.
Into the office until 12 when I make lunch.
Sometimes run DBH to station, chauffeur GD to school/nursery for work element of childcare course, or orthodontist etc.

Spoilt smile

We both tend to wake up at the same time - sometime between 7 and 7.30, if not the dogs make sure we don't oversleep.
Whoever is dressed first lets the chickens out although if it's a warm sunny morning I nip out in my PJs.
I have a shower/get dressed while DH makes the tea and we have a quick look at breakfast telly before he cooks breakfast.
Check into gransnet and have a quick look at the papers online.
Quick tidy up after breakfast then weather permitting we start work outside with the dogs running round like mad things!!
If the weather is horrible DH departs to his workshop to hide find things to do for the rest of the morning while I tackle washing/ironing/hoovering etc. This will only be up to date if I can't get outside.

Lona Tue 05-May-15 16:09:08

No, I don't like staying in bed and I hate having a cup of tea in bed!

TriciaF Tue 05-May-15 15:31:24

Maybe it's old habits die hard - for those of us who used to get up early to go to work. And get children off to school.
But I've never been able to enjoy a "lie-in" - too restless.

Lona Tue 05-May-15 14:59:21

It's interesting to see that quite a lot of us still get up fairly early, even though we don't really need to.

TriciaF Tue 05-May-15 14:55:36

Reading all this I think I'm overdoing it - until recently I got up at about 7am, then
Downstairs in dressing gown, kettle on.
Boots on, outside to let chickens out and feed them.
Back in change shoes wash hands.
Twice a week load the washing machine and start a wash.
Make coffee for me and muesli for husband.
Sit down with coffee and watch BBC breakfast news.
Last few weeks I've given over the chicken jobs to husband - smile

ninathenana Tue 05-May-15 14:03:53

I feel a total slob now grin

Wake up whenever, if it's early creep downstairs leaving DH asleep.
Put kettle on
Unlock back door let cat out.
Make tea, poor cereal, turn on smart phone, turn on BBC breakfast. Read paper whilst drinking tea.
Check GN and e-mails
Back upstairs about 9am wash dress teeth. If going out makeup.
Back to kitchen unload dishwasher and tidy kitchen.

harrigran Tue 05-May-15 13:19:20

crown One is amused grin

Charleygirl Tue 05-May-15 12:57:43

Coffee, coffee and more coffee, interspersed with GN. Housework, what is that? I do wash clothes it would appear, for the local county so that does take up a lot of my time.

Tara's dry food is out 24/7- I check that she will not starve or dehydrate, then I decide what I want to do with the day.

glassortwo Tue 05-May-15 12:57:29

harrigran Tue 05-May-15 12:30:12

Wake up at whatever time, depending on what time I went to bed.
DH brings me a chilled glass of water to take my beta blocker.
DH then brings coffee upstairs and we read for an hour.
DH goes downstairs and puts the toast on and I get out of bed, eat toast and have second cup of coffee.

Katek Tue 05-May-15 11:00:36

Alarm goes off at 7.15
Cuppa in bed from tea maker (genius invention)
7.50 shower after DH is out of bathroom
8.10 cereal/tea with DH. Take meds
8.30 DH leaves. Second mug of tea and slice of toast.

9.15 check everything on IPad/phone, make any calls needed
10.00 housework-bed, kitchen, vacuuming, polish paw prints off glass table,
tidy DH's little heaps of 'stuff' into one big heap for him to sort out in evening. Clean bathroom
11.00 Fun part of day begins!!

AshTree Tue 05-May-15 10:10:30

Out of bed 7.30, downstairs in dressing gown by 8.00. Make a cup of tea, take into living room and relax in peace, knowing DH won't be out of bed for at least another hour smile. Check GN, FB, emails etc, read any BBC news magazine and Aeon magazine stories that appeal (from my FB newsfeed). DH comes down and shatters my peace with Sky News wink. I go up and get dressed, do hair, make bed, sort washing. Come down, put washing in machine, make 2nd cup of tea, back in living room to re-check GN, FB as before and do daily online jigsaw.

glassortwo Tue 05-May-15 10:10:08
