Bananas- my 91 year old father has never eaten or tasted a banana in his life! And says he's got no intentions to start now
My mum said she was given one after the war and kept it until it turned to mush...... She didn't know you have to peel it and was too embarrassed to ask!

Anno I am sorry to hear a misinterpretation led to a partial replacement. This is what I am hoping to avoid.

I am not suffering in silence anymore and asked my GP to arrange an assessment with an orthopaedic surgeon so I am hoping to still be at the stage whereby keyhole surgery is the answer.

Thank you Nellie. It's reassuring and I am pleased to hear your surgery was successful. I have reached the stage I will do anything to get rid of the pain. I know how important excersises would be for full recovery so I would do whatever is necessary.

Gagagran I could not agree more- if one is not of the same political persuasion, one is persona non grata. Much kinder and more pleasant here. The odd snippy one sneaks in but is soon got rid of smartly.

A lovely day here but the rain cometh- hopefully not until after my grass is cut for the first time this year.

When growing up in a Derbyshire village during the war, we had an evacuwee(sp, that certainly doesn't look right) from London.Her mother managed to get some bananas which she sent to us and we took them to school.They were taken around to show everyone as no-one had ever seen one and we didn't even know they had to be peeled.I can't remember whether we liked the taste or not.

Please no politics, or any rumours of politics. This is supposed to be a controversy free zone. We should not need to take refuge in a cellar or wear tin hats.

Off to get provisions with my ration book. I hear there are no bananas today.

I've left my tin hat outside in case any of the snippy ones have sneaked in. It is an oasis of calm and peace and friendship in here and a great relief from the aggressive nature of some other threads. Dare I say that they seem to be from one political wing? (Hides behind the sofa).........

This was from a MRI scan done years ago; I worked for the NHS at the time and didn't get much sympathy so I just carried on regardless . I even got in trouble because I had to drive to work as I couldn't walk very well. It's a lot better now. Trouble is, that was my 'good knee'. I never had the 'bad knee' scanned; dread to think what they'd find .

Tegan do you know the grading of your OA? It would appear that you are on your way to a knee replacement.

My knee has got 'patella femoral degenerative changes with narrowing of joint spaces and osteophytes; moderate medial compartment degeneration and lateral meniscus abnormalities and irregularity around anterior horn'. Should I be worried?

janerowena my advice to you is if you do want your ankle examined etc. by an orthopaedic surgeon is to choose a foot and ankle surgeon, not a general orthopaedic surgeon.

Bone spurs! Another new and exciting ailment for me to google.

Oh dear! I suppose I could get one quite easily. If I haven't already. I injured my ankle last year and it really isn't healing well, I should probably get it looked at. That's the problem with looking up ailments, it opens up a whole new world of possible reasons for little painful niggles.

I have never been a political or religious evangelist. I assume that people will eventually work out their own beliefs, and apply them to their lives, not go round trying to either convert others or mock them for the way they think. This applies to both politics and religion. I used to watch religious fanatics at some of the meetings my mother took me along to, and wonder at their sheer blinkeredness and venom when faced with opposition. I was only about twelve. So I now know to evade any argument on either subject, it's a waste of breath, and it keeps my blood pressure low.

Soutra I could not agree more, if one does not agree with the political views of 3-4 people, one is shot down in flames. I keep quiet and stay on here. I dread to think what may happen after the election if the result does not go their way.

NM, I always thought bone spurs were a foot problem, didn't realise you could get them elsewhere.

Agus I had bone spurs removed late 2013 after suffering lots of shooting pains in my arms at night all through that summer.

It turned out that the bone spurs had frayed two tendons which were repaired. It was a long and very uncomfortable rehab but I am so glad I had it fixed. It carried on improving for over a year but there were times when I thought it would never get better but it really did.

You must do you exercises though once you are allowed to.

I hope your surgery goes OK.

Soutra, LL is right, come here and chill. I think it must be election fever or something, there seems to be a lot of tension in several threads atm, not experienced this amount before (and I've been here for 4 years). I'm sure it will pass, I shall stay away from such threads.

Agus, I hope your shoulder surgeon suggests keyhole surgery. If an x-ray hadn't been misinterpreted at an early stage, I could have had that to get rid of the osteophytes that went on to cause me a great deal of pain and eventually necessitated a partial replacement of the joint. Don't suffer in silence!

Right, my question for today;

Why are some members of Gransnet (and present company are of course excepted) so downright aggressive, bad tempered, snippy, even verging into bullying?
Maybe I have led a sheltered life, but most, if not all the adults I have met have been pleasant, warm, "nice" people. There were some horrors among some of the teenagers I have taught, but usually typical teenage "silliness" nothing malicious.
I don't expect us all to be sweet rosy cheeked "Nans" knotting Shreddies, but AIBU to wonder at the vitriol being spouted?
