I believe ducks often nest away from water, they will escort their family to water when they are ready. Don't worry, they know what they are doing.

Gagagran Sat 25-Apr-15 13:33:31

My pleasure Galen - here we go! wink

Galen Sat 25-Apr-15 13:11:02

First World War 1 tunes of course.
If you were the only girl in the world
Hang out your washing on the ?Siegfreid line
Keep the home fires burning
Goodbye Dolly Grey.
We hate to leave you, but we know you have to go
Etc etc etc

Gagagran Sat 25-Apr-15 12:34:37

Time was when I might have been pompa but those days are long gone! wink

I enjoyed our snakes and ladders game but getting down behind the sofa played havoc with my knees so better stick to the table from now on? Or shall I just have a session on the piano - some nice background music?

janerowena Sat 25-Apr-15 12:18:24

I am very young when I am sitting down, and very old when I am standing up and moving.

The blasted duck is still nesting by my front door. The responsibility of it all is weighing heavily. Do ducks on nests need water? I'm only used to dog and cat nursing mothers!

pompa Sat 25-Apr-15 12:17:25

Gagagran, is not that sort of lady - unfortunately grin

Galen Sat 25-Apr-15 12:04:55

Morning. pompa apropos your remark about not getting old, which woman were you feeling? Were you and Gagagran behind that sofa again?

pompa Sat 25-Apr-15 11:41:23

Good morning Kitchener's sunshine

Soutra Sat 25-Apr-15 00:26:30

I thought her DH had gone into hospital when they got back, or am I 1 stage behind?

Nelliemoser Fri 24-Apr-15 23:30:24

Soutra I think they are/were on Holiday.

Soutra Fri 24-Apr-15 22:02:09

Has anybody heard anything from Bellasnana? I am concerned about her and her DH and hope all is well with them.

pompa Fri 24-Apr-15 20:16:32

And there's me getting excited about a pair of wrens nest in one of my boxes. Ducks are pretty brave once they have nested.

pompa Fri 24-Apr-15 20:12:52

That is far too deep a question for the kitchen, I'll settle for Pete Townshend's line "I hope I die before I get old" and to that end "you are as old as the woman you feel"
Not getting any deeper than that smile

janerowena Fri 24-Apr-15 20:08:04

I always knew I was immortal.

Talking about ducks, soop, I have one. In my garden. In a nest. Right by my front door. She gave me such a fright, I was weeding the bed and tying in the climbing roses and jasmine for six whole hours out there, I didn't notice her once, she was so well camouflaged. Now however, she is bared to the world and we have had to cut aucuba branches in a sort of wigwam around her, and DBH moved a big planter in front of her for shade. Oh the responsibility... Next door's three year old twins came to see her, and so did their cat, so I am not sure if she will stay.

I cannot convey how scary it is to see an eye peering out of the gloom at you and know it is not cat-shaped.

loopylou Fri 24-Apr-15 20:02:39

Brilliant pompa.....how long do you have to live for [hopeful]

pompa Fri 24-Apr-15 19:59:15

It's official, death is optional !. I was watching an advert on some odd channel for life insurance, they said you would get a minimum payout of £2000 IF you die, not WHEN. Good news eh.

pompa Fri 24-Apr-15 19:06:59

It has been very pleasant not to have any tension today, Soop's kitchen must have a calming influence. Scented candles, joss sticks perhaps. At the art group I go to the lady that runs it always has joss sticks burning, very calming.

soop Fri 24-Apr-15 17:56:49

Pheweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee! Goodness gracious me. I have never known so much activity in 24 hours in our kitchen...I blame pompa Snakes and ladders indeed. wink

As for the variety of subjects discussed, I am bowled over. It's all going on in our kitchen. So many helpful and delightful Granspals. I like it when us lot don't get all hot under the collar and miffed. Honest to goodness, we're so much better than that. grin

"Me duck" that is a phrase that my late Nana used to say...she, like me, a Midlander.

The care home was extraordinarily busy today. I spotted half a dozen new residents. Sadly, every one of them appeared to be in the late stages of dementia. I sat with my three good friends...all ladies, and we more or less covered the same ground we've debated every time we're together. It doesn't seem to matter. They like talking (at the same time) and we laugh (at the same jokes). We also have a chat with our very good male pal. He sits with two other men who say very little. Our pal believes that "one day" he'll be well enough to "go home"...and we know that isn't going to happen. However, the thought keeps him hopeful and that's very important. When we're about to leave, the ladies all like me to give them a parting kiss. I have grown very fond of them.

Well, for ALL those of you with aches and pains and, like Tegan and Nellie, concerns of one kind or another, I'm sending love and (((hugs))).

I must hasten away but I shall be with you in the morning. moon

loopylou Fri 24-Apr-15 17:09:26

I'll pm you Galen

Galen Fri 24-Apr-15 16:55:32

If it wasn't for a nasty bend in a busy road combined with no pavement or verge, we could walk to ours.

Nelliemoser Fri 24-Apr-15 16:37:05

I have designs on a run to a garden centre as soon as I can but DDs baby #2 was due today, so at any time now I could be called to do the 50 miles to mind DGS.

The thought of driving 15 miles in the opposite direction and then getting "the phone call" makes me feel anxious.
An overnight bag is my car and the petrol tank is full.
However DGS was 8 days overdue so I feel rather trapped.
Poor DD is feeling very large.
I am going to be feeling very jumpy for the next few days.

pompa Fri 24-Apr-15 16:17:15

I dread to think how much we have spent at our local nursery, not only plants, coffee & cake or lunch each time.

loopylou Fri 24-Apr-15 15:54:26

grin, pompa you're a gem! Even if you've forced justified me to buy yet more plants by posting about garden centres - and I've been told of a very cheap plant nursery near Bristol hmm that I just might need to explore.....
