Of course you are welcome, Bogoff - despite your forum name! grin Especially welcome if you bring a calorie free cake or a packet of biscuit. And yes, we are friendly. Pull up a chair but please be careful not to sit on Rory.

loopylou Sun 03-May-15 14:03:21

Of course Bogoff, welcome to soop's wonderful abode (and to Gransnet!)

It's a haven for many of us, so lovely to have you smile

Bogoff Sun 03-May-15 13:56:37

Hello, I have just joined Gransnet, found this group and as it said friendy I thought I would give it a try, I hope I am welcome.

soop

The snooker has been a good watch, I must admit to not being a particular fan but hubby has watched it all and I have enjoyed 'lurking'. smile

So soop will be snuggled up with a tot watching the Final at 2 , POGS watching in wet Leicestershire too anybody else viewing?

loopylou Sun 03-May-15 13:39:24

Have a lovely cosy afternoon x

baubles Sun 03-May-15 13:38:49

Oh soop how dreadful for your friends. You're right, life is so short and precious, a little kindness goes a long way.

Glad to hear the weather is clearing a little, it's still horrible here. My son set off at dawn to walk the West Highland Way, a few dry days wouldn't be too much to ask would it?

soop Sun 03-May-15 13:34:15

loopylou There is a wee break in the cloud at long last. I can now just about see the islands. The sea also appears to be becoming a little less feisty but the wind remains very chilly. We shall need to light the fire this afternoon. I do enjoy a log fire. Will entertain myself by watching a few frames of the World Snooker Championship. I happen to like both finalists.

loopylou Sun 03-May-15 13:25:07

You do seem to be getting the worst of the weather up there - I watch the weather forecasts and my eyes are always drawn to Kintyre.

The Rory cat is a sensible and sensitive soul, I don't like wet feet either smile

I too will miss pompa, his gentle humour and quick wit, I do hope he has second thoughts but I fear it's unlikely.

soop Sun 03-May-15 13:17:15

loopylou It is a chilly, wet day in bonnie Kintyre. It must have rained buckets last night. Our back garden path looks more like a wee burn. The water comes off the back hillside and pools in puddles through which Rory refuses to step. You do know that Rory was feral cat once upon a time!!! wink As for helping to sample your cranberry and chocolate cookies...-I'd better not-- thanks you, yes, I shall have one or two right this minute. grin

Charleygirl...I shall miss pompa...he had a good sense of humour. Hey ho! I too am not thick-skinned. When I enter our kitchen I'm assured of good, kindly company. Thank you for being a Kitchener flowers

Charleygirl Sun 03-May-15 12:59:32

I am pleased that pompa got in touch with you soop but I am very sorry to hear that he does not want to stay with us lot. Only one person has been nasty here recently and she was quickly shot down in flames. I am not thick skinned so I stay well clear of some posts and mostly keep my opinions to myself. I also am not part of the knitting and natter brigade- somewhere in between I suppose.

loopylou Sun 03-May-15 12:15:32

Funny sort of weather here today, warmer, wet, now sunny but black clouds looming so am going to settle myself down in here with a coffee and sit and watch the sea. I've put a tin of homemade cookies on the table so help yourselves (cranberry & white chocolate).

Mishap your DD must be getting a little weary, poor lass.

If the sun comes out properly I must get out in the garden later, before I completely lose sight of the new perennials I planted last autumn and they get eaten by slugs and snails.

soop Sun 03-May-15 11:03:20

Well now, a private message from pompa appears to be his last. He sends you all his best wishes. I feel extremely sad and more than a trifle miffed that he feels uncomfortable (my word) thanks to some bitchy remarks. hmm

Tegan darling, have to considered volunteering? The ladies in the Red Cross shop do such a worthwhile job and get to meet new people as a bonus. sunshine

Mishap Your daughter's quote made me chortle.

loopylou (((hugs)))

jane and flowers for you and your cheerful friend.

Nelliemoser Sat 02-May-15 22:51:12

Mishap I do like your daughters quoted remark. grin That could have been my DD there. Mine was only three days overdue this time but it was over a week last time.

Mishap Sat 02-May-15 19:52:06

Or even "out" there.

Mishap Sat 02-May-15 19:51:35

Fill it! There will be something our there.

Tegan Sat 02-May-15 19:47:26

I know this is nothing compared to the awful things that happen to people but I got a newsletter today from my racing club to say that, due to falling numbers, it is going to cease to exist. They have three meetings a year and they are [apart from the occasional gransnet meet up] the only social events I go to, and I look forward to them all year. It's going to leave a huge void in my life sad.

Mishap Sat 02-May-15 19:03:45

Come back pompa - spit out the vitriol and rise above 'em! We need your sense of humour and a bit of male balance. And who will send me hugs when my hip hurts and the Black Dog descends? I will now go on to the offending thread and see what nonsense has been going on.

Quote from DD today - "I see the royal vagina has obliged, but mine is still uncooperative!"

janerowena Sat 02-May-15 18:56:10

Horrible, isn't it, when all of our friends seem to be in such trouble physically and mentally. I'm just beginning to realise why us older lot are called 'crumblies'. I spent yesterday morning having coffee with a friend with cancer in her throat and on her skin, her OH about to have not one but two operations, and then she told me a hilarious story about how the woman mapping her cancerous moles looked up and suddenly asked 'Do you snort cocaine?' shock Apparently the inside of her nose looked just as if it was crumbling away inside, with a strange growth. She told it in such a funny way, and we both laughed, but the fact is, it could be another cancerous growth.

loopylou Sat 02-May-15 16:46:24

Oh my goodness soop, that's so sad and sobering.
flowers and ((hugs)) seem woefully inadequate and words to comfort you escape me, other than to say my thoughts are with you x

soop Sat 02-May-15 16:40:24

pompa (((hugs)))

soop Sat 02-May-15 16:39:33

Our lovely pal and next door neighbour (who has lung cancer) and whose twin is a new resident in the Care Home, is back in hospital. Her husband of not yet two years has early onset dementia and a heart condition. Another close pal is awaiting the results of a biopsy for prostate cancer. Yet another pal has advanced cancer of the brain...and an ex DIL of ours, of whom we remain very fond, has as yet, an unnamed form of leukaemia.

All I'm saying here is...for goodness sake let us lot not subscribe to bitchiness. Kindness matters. flowers

soop Sat 02-May-15 15:17:44

pompa I echo janes plea. Please stay with us lot smile

janerowena Sat 02-May-15 12:50:27

I've only just read the thread where pompa comes under attack. I'm stunned. Come back, pompa and provide a good-humoured balance against all that vitriol. I hate being wolf-whistled at, but appreciate beauty in both men and women, and realise that that was all you intended.

soop Sat 02-May-15 12:30:45

Yes loopylou I had a wee tear in my eye when I read the news. wine

loopylou Sat 02-May-15 12:05:25

Wonderful news, isn't it?
I still marvel at the birth of a baby, something so life-affirming about it.
