I don't know how much it used to be but I do know DH (a Real Ale man) loves Wetherspoons for its prices and range of guest ales. I hate beer - unless of course its in a nice rich casserole.

If you work it back to see what % of the average weekly wage a pint of beer was in 1963 compared to the present it gives you more of an idea of the true cost today.
Some things can be quite surprising.

A pint of Watneys Red Barrel was 2/3 around 1967/68. I used to have a half to impress my then boyfriend, but I hated it!

Teetime my hubby is of the same thoughts about Weatherspoons he & his gang of "men of a certain age" put the world to rights over their guest ales every Thursday afternoon.
Some of the best beer prices are around Liverpool City Centre where you can call in quite a few older pubs and enjoy a good cheap pint and good company,most times up to a £ cheaper than this side of the water,so what is all that about how can the pubs justify the difference.

I don't know about beer specifically, but I remember on my birthday in 1968 being with a bunch of friends in a local pub. The first round was my treat. There were 16 of us, and obviously there was a variety of drinks bought, including G&T's and whisky macs. I got a little change out of £2 - I can actually remember silently gulping at such a huge expense...

My first pint of Guinness bought in a Workingmens Club in 1967 cost 1s-10p.
The latest one I bought last Friday in our village pub cost £3-60.

That first pint was 1s-10d ( not 1s-10p).

Guinness £2.80 in Liverpool Town Centre so a big difference if you fancy a few.

When at Uni in Newcastle (1963) one got a pint for 1/3 and pie and chips for the same amount, thus allowing a Good Night Out for half a crown 2/6 ...

And half of cider cost 9d - my OH used to joke that he only married me because he could get me drunk for 9d!

Wish I could get there at £2-80 a pint glammanana.
Our pub does a 'Happy Hour' with 50p off all pints but I never go.
Far too depressing.
Sad chaps lining up 'cheap' pints and moaning about the regular price.

Around here Wetherspoons has the best price on a pint of beer. Otherwise its £6 for 1 and half pints................... Wallet attack!

Surely what the price ^was* is irrelevant - it is how it seems relative to today's incomes?
All this retrospection doesn't seem to have much point unless one likes to wallow in nostalgia.

Of course we're wallowing in nostalgia; why shouldn't we occasionally?
