Royal baby's name.

My DGS3 didn't look like a new born, weighing in at 10lb 4oz. He's 5 weeks old now and filling out a 3 to 6 month babygro. Guess what he was going to be called if he'd been a girl?! Not for long though apparently. My DS says they would have had to change it, to avoid people thinking they'd copied the royals.

Ah well, I stand corrected merlot - I was sure I'd read somewhere that she was always known as Catherine by her family and friends.

I think she was called Kate at university, AshTree.

At the time of the Royal wedding the media started referring to Catherine and Phillipa. Didn't last long though.

As soon as the pregnancy was announced I said she would be called Charlotte, I didn't even think of a name for a boy.

Whatever the family choose to call the new little princess in private - Lottie, Charlie etc, we, the Great British Public, will have to put up with whatever the media decide to call her. The Duchess of Cambridge was dubbed Kate by the media from day 1 - as I understand it she is not generally called Kate among her close friends and family (correct me if I'm wrong!). Similarly I am quite sure Diana wasn't ever referred to by her family and friends as 'Di', but she was frequently called Princess Di by the media.

Yes, lovely names and I'm with those who are pleased that William's mum gets a look in.

I also hope this baby (Lottie I hope) is to be given some privacy, along with her big brother and her parents. I must be getting soft in my old age - our wonderful daughter had her first baby on Friday. She had a very tough pregnancy and her baby was delivered early by planned c section because of concerns for his growth. He makes the new princess look like what we'd call in the north west a right bouncer. He is tiny, but absolutely perfect and the whole family are besotted - of course we are Incidentally, our daughter was up and walking about 12 hours after her c section, is breast feeding successfully and that's life, isn't it folks. Could not be more thrilled if I tried !

The Charlotte Elizabeth in my family has just put a request on facebook that I start practicing my curtsey!

I do like the names, particularly Charlotte. Pleased they included Diana.

What is a newborn supposed to look like anyway? They vary tremendously.

I though the pictures of the baby were delightful. Reminded me so much of my first born (late and a good weight) and both my darling GC (also both late and good weights. Babies differ enormously and why anyone is even bothering to give credence to a few ridiculous 'rumors' is beyond me.

I like the names, very appropriate and should please all the family. I hadn't thought of it as a tribute to P. Charles! A bit slow today.

DD1 didn't look like a newborn, she was very pretty with curly dark hair, and she was about the same weight as the royal baby.
(No 2 looked as if he had been in a boxing match and no 3 was jaundiced.)

I agree. Very nice. Bonnie princess Charlie maybe! Lottie is nicer but I daresay it'll turn into whatever George can pronounce. Hope she has a long and happy life and we don't hear much about her in the media.

Elizabeth was the chosen second name for girls in my family for generations. There was no way I was going to have my daughters given the same second name as their mother, grandmother, great grandmother, cousins, aunts etc., etc. Ridiculous!!

Nobody batted an eyelid. They were probably all sick of it as well.

I think they are lovely names especially as we have a daughter Elizabeth, a DGD Charlotte (very definitely Lottie) and one of my loveliest friends is a Diana.

I don't think it's oviously anything to do with Prince Charles's name. Kate and Will probably just like the name Charlotte!

Petallus I thought baby did not look newborn either. Wonder what theories will be conjectured. Hanoverian name over Stuart name - an obvious choice if you are Saxe Coburg Hesse Gotland. No Game of Thrones names then. Sorry. Just being silly.

This is obviously for Prince Charles. Not surprised - a really traditional name; they were never going to go trendy. But sounds very pretty as long as she is not called Char. Lottie is a nicer diminutive.

Maybe it will be Princess Lottie, Tee time?

I rather fancied Alice or, secondly, Alexandra for the first name, but I do like Charlotte and it seems very appropriate considering all the connections that Anniebach has pointed out.

Nice names (except Diana - I wasnt a fan) but of course she will be Princess Charlie.
