Reasons to be cheerful - not the big stuff

What small things cheer you up? I'm not talking about the gratitude you might have for family, friends etc just the little things in life.

Yesterday I cleaned the house through - well overdue - and in the evening a friend asked if she could overnight on Monday because of complications with her house sale/purchase. I was immensely cheered to think that for once I could welcome unexpected guests into a clean house, rather than the usual tip.

It turned out that I had bought an unusually sweet and delicious net of clementines, so I ate four of them whilst watching TV.

I realised that I don't care about the huge and hideous greenhouse my neighbours have erected (think Little House on the Prairie) because they are lovely people. They just have really bad taste in greenhouses.

What small events or realisations brighten your day?

And my car's MOT isn't quite due yet....

G came and dug a trench for my (eventual) runner beans. They aren't even up yet!
And we planted out a hibiscus which had been in a pot too long. (From a tree in Cowley which I admired, growing in a front garden in a sheltered place, so I hope I have chosen the right place for it.)

My reasons to be cheerfull just now are,

A lovely day on Saturday with family.

Another lovely day on Sunday with long times friends who we don't see often enough but when we do it's like we saw them yesterday.

This is a lovely thread.

A cup of DH's special coffee in the morning.
A hug from my eldest GD.
A new baby in the family (so long as it is not crying.)
A blackbird's song in the summer.
The smell of a greenhouse.
Very, very early on a summer's morning when there is mist over the fields.
Reading a good book and realising you are less than half way through.
Baby Oleg.
Dad's Army.

Yesm pompa, Dad's humour remained at undergraduate level all his life - he was fond of puns and spoonerisms too!

Lona Sun 29-Mar-15 22:12:02

Your Father must have been a great man to know, even if he did have my twisted sense of humor.

annodomini Sun 29-Mar-15 21:37:29

Pompa, you have the same sense of humour as my late father - not that that is always a bad thing! grin

pompa Sun 29-Mar-15 21:18:34

They certainly are some of the better moments in life smile

Watching tits of any size cheers me up as well. grin

annodomini Sun 29-Mar-15 20:36:33

Ironing? Something that happens about every three months, if that... blush

Bez Sun 29-Mar-15 20:20:46

Watching a great tit taking his nest building materials into the box DH so carefully made them and put where I can see them when sitting on the settee.

Having a VIBER message from DGS giving me all his news.

Receiving photos of our twin grandsons (now 12 weeks) via email and seeing the little one, who was in the special baby unit, putting on enough weight to be starting a double chin!
