Does anyone remember the song "Toast" by Streetband?

Nothing like toast. Mine's from Asda too I think, just bog standard but does the job although I do wish they made them to take the Warburtons large slice. It sticks out of my toaster.

I have a Panasonic with stay cool panels, it remembers how you like your toast and reproduces it every time. Pricey at about £80 but does the job.

We have a Delonghi which toasts quite evenly. Got it in JL sale so not too expensive.

Our Krups is still going strong - a basic 2 slicer that sits end on descretely in kitchen. Had it at least 7 years now.

I used to take cold buttered toast to work years ago...

Just a wee bit too far Ana and the toast would be cold by the time you got here although, I actually like cold toast!

If you lived nearer Ana you would be welcome to pop round for some evenly toasted bread with a topping of your choice.

I must admit Dualit is one I have not tried. When my present toaster gives up the ghost (Russell Hobbs and not too bad but still toasts unevenly!) I may try one.

The best I have ever had is my current cheapo one from Asda, had it for years. You have made me fancy some toast now! Yesterday I was given a present of clementine marmalade with Cointreau, so will have to try it.

Whats all this about uneven toasting? It doesn't happen with Dualit.

Mine is a year older than yours jo So, although expensive initially it's still working well after 16 years.

I can choose between 2/4 toastings and it makes lovely soft toast/crumpets or muffins.

Yes. One side of the toast always seems to brown faster than the other, and I've always had to turn it round halfway through with every one of our (many, over the years) toasters.

If there was one which guaranteed even toasting on both sides I'd pay quite a lot for it...

I think all toasters, however cheap or expensive, have the same useless toasting grills inside.

I make our bread and rolls, so we need one that does thick slices. Our last one lasted for eight years, a Morphy Richards, so I have bought another one of those.

Dualit is the best. Had mine for 15 years and just got new elements for £29.
Why?. Its looks good - is sturdy - lever to lift toast - good timers and a sort of clamp with handle for your buns for easy llftitng out. Search web for best price as this can vary by up to £50.
Remember the old adage;
Buy good buy once,
Buy cheap buy twice.

Jingl my present toaster is the colour changing type. It does toast evenly. I did not realise that they are no longer in production. I find the colour changing very useful. I bought it in a sale so it was quite inexpensive.

I'm also in the market for a new toaster.

This thread has sent me on a memory trip - remember the 2-slice ones that you put the bread in and flipped it shut? You could check on the toast any time and put it back for a while if you wanted. Then we had one where you sort of swivelled 4 slices in place by turning a knob on the top of the toaster.

I got one of the cheapies from Tesco when my Morphy Richards one blew up! It toasts well but is a little small. Some slices of bread have to be halved to fit in.

We still have the original classic Morphy Richards toaster, used daily for 20 odd years.
This is strange, because before that we could only manage to keep them a couple of years before they, usually, burst into flames!

Before that, we had a colour changing one. Son bought it for me for Xmas pressie. It was lovely to watch the colours change as the toast got done-er and done-er. But it only lasted a couple of years. And they don't make it any more.

We bought this one from Morrisons just before Xmas. It's fine. It toasts bread. And all toast is delicious.

Oooh, just remembered I saw an advert for one a while back which has see through sides, so you actually see how brown the toast is!

The Dualit ones are supposed to be good, if expensive.
