I just wanted to ask what others thought about this. I am aware that one of my friends is unsafe driving - this is very evident to everyone. The poor chap had a stroke about 10 years ago and this has had a huge impact on his attention, sense of direction etc. He drives at about 25 mph, gets hopelessly lost, and has been known to finish up on the wrong side of the road after turning out of a T-junction.
I did what I should do and reported the problem in confidence to his GP - this was a couple of years ago and nothing has been done as far as I can tell as he is still loose in the road.
I used to work with people with brain injury and stroke and we sent them to a specialist driving assessment centre where they had everything tested from attention skills to physical capabilities. For some reason this does not seem to have happened in this case.
He lives out in the countryside and not being allowed to drive would have a huge impact on his life.
I know his family are unhappy about him driving and discourage it all they can - but, to be honest, I suspect that they do not kick up too much fuss because they would finish up doing the chauffering.
I think everyone is waiting for someone else to do something - but I have and it got me nowhere - just made me feel really bad as I knew that potentially I would cause him much unhappiness.
Do I take action again? If so what? And why me!!??
