Dave Clark Five

I loved the Dave Clarke Five.

Pompa - seem to remember teenagers used to jump up and down to Bits and Pieces and there was talk of the jumping causing damage to buildings!

It was always The Kinks for me closely followed by The Beatles and The Stones.

First record I ever bought was "You really got me."

About ten years ago I saw Ray Davis at The Hippodrome. I went right back to the teenage years and started shouting "Look at me Dave."

He DID and gave me a little wave.

I did not see the programme but recall Dave Clark himself brought the rights for Ready Steady Go, which in the 60`s was the show to watch early on a Friday night.

I thought it was just me that fancied Mike Smith ....what channel was it on? I did mean to watch it. I do tend to get them mixed up with Dave Dee, Dozy et al.....

Didn't see the programme but 'Bits and Pieces' was the first single I ever bought.

I remember the Beatles sudden rise causing panic in the Cliff Richard camp. He was interviewed on the radio saying his sisters were huge fans of the Dave Clark Five. My mother wasn't happy about my obsession with the Beatles and thought I'd be better off with the DC5 - Cliff's sisters must be right so she bought me a poster for my bedroom.

I hid it under my bed!!

I loved them but I didn't realise how well respected they were and still are.

I watched a bit of it and then got bored.

I hadn't been aware how successful they were and, despite the glowing accolades from various contributors to the programme, I'm not quite sure why. The only songs I really remember are "Glad All Over" and "Bits and Pieces". I thought Dave Clark's staring eyes were a bit unnerving.

He may not have his good looks any longer, but how many of us have at 72. Sad that only 2 of the 5 are still with us, and none of their deaths directly related to the rock 'n roll life style.
Good to see a group that broke up because they decided the time was right rather than internal friction.

I can remember at the Royal an announcement asking fans not to stamp their feet, they were worried that the floor would not take it.

Dave Clark looks a touch 'unfortunate' now!!

I went to see them at the Gaumont in Derby and had seats under the balcony. We spent the evening being showered in falling plaster which was a bit of a worry!

I agree, petra. So many of them were ripped off by dodgy managers and recording companies. Dave Clark always looked a bit gormless to me. How wrong can you be??

I was more a fan of the Beatles/Stones/Kinks/Hollies but Mike Smith was a bit of alright

The only part that amazed me was, how savvy Dave Clark was with money.
