Favourite room

Our lounge/dinner which runs the width of the rear of the house. It has a large picture window in the dining end and patio doors the sitting end both of which look out onto our 40' x 55' South facing garden.

Right here, on the computer in a corner of the sitting-room. It's a long room, this end is mine really. I have the computer and desk, with a nice storage unit above for work/singing stuff/paperwork. The stove is to my right, a window to my left overlooking the back garden and the bird feeders and I have planted a buddleia against a wall nearby so that I can watch butterflies in the summer and bluetits and coaltits in the winter. There is a big radiator to my left as well, so this is probably the warmest place in the house. My computer chair is really nice, a cream sort of sculpted form that is very comfortable.

Behind me is a small pretty white table with a Lloyd loom chair where I can read or sew if I need a small table, using the daylight, rather than go to a sofa at the other end of the room where sometimes the sun is a bit too much. Sometimes I think I should give up this area to a bigger sofabed for DD&Co, but I love it too much.

My kitchen, although we only have a small personal courtyard garden, our garden gate opens on to extensive communal gardens which lead down to the Thames, although in the summer our view of the moorings is obscured by a large oak tree so we can't always see the boats bobbing around like we can at the moment. We live in a town house and whilst we can see the river from the lounge on the first floor and our bedroom on the second floor, I love the kitchen the most because it has immediate access to the gardens which are beautiful.

I also have my own bedroom now, I had an accident several years ago and slept so badly I moved to the spare room for both our sakes. I do love that it's all mine, space to spread out, can read in middle of night if I want.

Now I have it decorated in country style shades of cream with green/pink touches, with pretty patchwork bedspread, and a favourite picture from my Dad on the wall. I have windows on 2 walls overlooking fields etc, and can also see down the corridor to the tall landing window facing the pond. I hear the owls at night right outside.

I would really love a conservatory, or a great view.Unfortunately our lounge faces north, so I miss sitting in the sunshine.

That's what we did when we moved down here, what some of us have called "future proofing" as well as comfort proofing. Everything is exactly how we wanted it (I will NOT mention the en suite because getting that done is a work in progress on DH to get him to admit it needs updating..)

Mine's my kitchen. Big farmhouse table that the family gathers round to eat and chat, where I bake with the grandchildren, get out my sewing machine, got two windows and glass door to look out on the garden and the woods beyond. I had it completely re-done when I retired, so it has everything that I like and everyone gravitates there when they visit.

I agree, a view would be make our lounge even better but we do have a view of our tiny, secluded, garden from our kitchen window. I spend a small fortune on bird food so it is usually alive with movement from birds and pesky squirrels! The view from our lounge is often quite busy as we live close to the centre of the village.

The best view in our house is from our 'glass corridor' which is between the two halves of the house and has views of roof tops and treetops and wide expanses of sky.

ariadne you will know from your trips to SA that more than one bathroom is standard in many homes. However, when I got to the US for the first time and discovered "his and hers" basins in each bathroom, now that was luxury.

I'm very envious of anyone who has a view. We lived in a house for many years with a marvellous view over distant hills. I still miss it. Now I just have my patio (although it is quite big and beautifully planted up) and other houses' roofs.

You are all making me realise just how much I need to (a) de-clutter and (b) re-decorate. The spirit is willing but the flesh is weak.

My sitting room - the length of the house, pale green walls, cream settees (one big one which I love) cream linen curtains - very serene. And it leads into the dining room /conservatory so is very light.

But also, a little bathroom which is mine (though not at the moment because I can't quite get into the bath yet..) It was already fitted when we moved in, and all the fitments are corner ones - the loo, the bath and the washbasin. It is white with a trim of cream and beige stone. It had the most horrendous lilac / pink ceramic tiles when we moved in, they were the first things to go!

I'm getting house-envy again reading about all these lovely sitting rooms with far-reaching views and woodburners!

Sitting room of Scottish home. Decorated in pale creams and blues, wood burner and two huge floor to ceiling windows.

The views are of a SW estuary, fabulous in good weather, dramatic in stormy weather. x

Our study. It is heavily beamed and cosy with a great big vintage partnership desk in the centre and DH and I work in a companionable fashion facing each other across our two pcs.

We are surrounded by the books and papers that go with our hobbies. In the bay window is a small comfortable settee. The walls (that you can see) are painted my favourite shade with cream with some red oriental rugs I inherited from my parents on the floor and curtains that unite the red and cream.

During the winter it's my lounge. We have two big old leather sofas and I like to sit on the one under the front window and look through the french doors into the conservatory and beyond that the garden, which is all snowy today.

In the summer I have a special area at the bottom of my garden where I have my swing lounger and I've created a little arbour here where I can chill out, watch the birds and insects, smell the flowers, and no one can see me.

I'm very fond of the whole of my house but if I had to choose it would be my bedroom and my workroom.

The bedroom is decorated in my favourite colour, teal and white and my bed is high and cosy.

My workroom has recently been decorated and fitted with square shelving, baskets and boxes . I have a lovely sturdy table and also a computer desk. All my crafting materials, my sewing machine and craft books are to hand . It really is my haven .

CeeCee I have a 1/12 size shop that I am planning to fit out as an old fashioned haberdashery.

The fairly recently redecorated and refurbished lounge, even though the walls are cracking all over again. Also, our lovely new bathroom, the first time in my life that I`ve had a nice bathroom.

My favourite room is my workroom. One side is lined with shelving filled with books and magazines relating to my hobby. There are also boxes filled with old family photos inherited from my Mum. Below the shelves there is a cupboard filled with cameras and photographic equipment - another of my hobbies. My work desk is also on this side, it's very messy with tools and paints, bits of wood and fabric and pots of glue. There are also storage units full of wood and fabric and paint.

On the other side of the room there are four cupboards and on them are my dolls houses - four of them and another one on the floor. I spend hours and hours in my room building and renovating my houses and making miniatures to go in them. I love my room and my hobby.

I miss my man cave.
That was a conservatory at the old house with comfy chairs, a good heater and fast internet.
So far at this new place I'd say bedroom.
Fewer draughts in there than elsewhere.

I'm with Mishap: we have a lovely view from our bedroom and I could sit and look at it all day. I like to watch the light change over the fields and the woods.
Our conservatory - it is 144 sq ft of heaven. Lots of light to paint, peg rugs, tie flies; two large squashy sofas to just doss around on, and enough room to dance with DGS, who loves to jump around a lot!

My bedroom. Since we decided 6 years ago to have separate rooms .....bliss. First time in my life I have a place that is just for me.

And the sleep, no snoring, kicking, stealing the duvet, no being disturbed by the light of the iPad .

I have two:

- the conservatory which has fabulous views and is south-facing. It started off tidy but now has toys for the GC, sewing machine and iron for my quilting and a comfy sofa to lie and bask in the warmth on.

- the bedroom, which is large with white boarding on the walls and French doors that open onto a small balcony with south facing views across the Welsh hills - every morning in bed with a cup of tea overlooking this is a joy! We treasure it and know how very lucky we are - we worked hard for it mind!

I have quite a few favourite places in the house: my bedroom or more specifically - my bed or "bed/office" as my husband calls it. I also love sitting in the lounge by the double glass doors that overlook our patio, because of the light. I like my kitchen too!

Oh, what the heck that leaves only the loo and the bathroom (and the spare room)

My house is small so the kitchen is also my dining room, office/computer room, hobby/sewing room, garden room, family room, bird/squirrel watching room

My favourite room is my "office" which houses my computer and all the paraphernalia of my many hobbies. It has a french window out to the garden so I love it winter and summer. I try to keep it tidy but it is always "mid task". I think it is a female equivalent of a "Shed".
