Do you meet friends in person after you meet them online?

£10 is for the food. I'll provide the wines and I don't like plonk

Well, I'm hosting a GN lunch in Portishead at my house for Ariadne who is visiting that day.
It will be canapé type thing from waitrose. I'm budgeting on £10 per head and wines from my cellar (aka the kitchen wine rack)

That was a great day marelli & absent !! Many of you had met before but I felt welcome and comfortable. Some very kind local-ish GNers stayed a bit later so I would not have to spend the evening on my own before travelling to York the next morning to meet my school chum!

Absent - oh, we did have a lovely day with you! My knees, ankles etc all made it home to Fife unscathed, but I did here of one or two scrapes and bruises that occurred to others...!!
My life has most definitely been enriched by meeting these lovely people!

I've been to a fair few Gransnet meet ups and have enjoyed every one of them. I've also met up with individuals on a couple of occasions. Gransnet has most definitely been a positive experience for me which has been further enhanced by real life meetings.

If I'd been asked a few years ago whether I would meet people I'd only known from an Internet forum the answer would have been along the lines of 'not on your nelly!' Just shows how persuasive some people can be .

Marelli We did have fun at the Glad to See the Back of You lunch didn't we, although I was slightly concerned about the number of people who injured their ankles, knees, etc. on the way home. I just hope those Gransnetters who have families in New Zealand or who treat themselves to the most wonderful holiday in the world can find time to pop in and see me when they are here. I cook a mean barbecue.

Bellasnana I've even got a signed Bette Davis print hanging on a wall which was given to me by a cousin on my birthday. I just love it

I've got Now Voyager on my iPad to watch yet again. I've also got All this and Heaven too however I'll need a preview to recall what this one is all about.

Elizabeth1 I hope you do come over and would love to meet you. Yes, i love Bette Davis films. Just watched 'Now, voyager' for the umpteenth time and still get teary-eyed at the end, although Dark Victory has me blubbing even more

I have met fellow Gransnetters, a few of whom are on this thread, in Edinburgh, Poplar and nearer home in Colchester. We may only have met online before but we seem to get on very well in the flesh - a bunch of fun, supportive people!

I met Galen when she visited Malta last year. It was lovely to meet her in person and if any other Gransnetters are in Malta, and would care to meet up, that would be great

I've a funny feeling i'll be meeting a new gransnetter when I'm in Tenerife and we haven't met in person. Daring or not

I've been to one in Edinburough and one in Birmingham and a a few local meets in Bristol. I'm hoping to organise one for locals plus Ariadne in March at my house.

haha! When I was on my way to a NE meet up (en route to a school friend in York) I told the taxi driver I was off to meet a group of women I had only previously known on line. He chuckled and said, 'Don't say anymore, my imagination is working overtime'

So I'm not on my own up here in the windy and cold north east!!

I've met many wonderful people via a French expat Forum and a Swiss one too. Two British ladies said they would love to try xcountry skiing about 5 years ago, and I invited them. DH thought I was totally nuts- but they turned out to be absolutely wonderful and are great friends with both of us and will always be. We have met great Brits and other expats in Switzerland and Eastern France- many youngsters we sort of 'take under our wing' and also some surrogate grandchildren- which I so enjoy, with mine so far away.

I visit North of Aberdeen at least once a month
