DDs ex always has to borrow a car seat from us when he collects the DGC from us! What he does when he takes the children out from DD I've no idea - possibly borrow hers. Why he doesn't buy one I don't know. I sometimes think he lives on another planet but we all get on with each other which is very nice so I don't make a fuss.

DD only needs one booster seat now, for the 10 year old (other 2 are teenagers), but her 'idiot' hasn't got one. He could even find one on Freegle if he could be bothered. I have my own which lives in my car - common sense surely!

Breaking news on the non-payment of child support. For the first time in over 2 years he has transferred some money to DD's account, and is 'looking to find a way to make it a regular occurrence' He has now bu**ered off on a snowboarding holiday, so doubt she will see any more!

We, on the other hand, have more car seats than we can store as our DGC range from a small one year old to a very tall eight year old! I could enter competitions for the fastest baby car seat fitter!

That could be an attractive result for some on here.

Not in the same situation but as regards our dgc - both parents and all 4 grandparents have child seats fitted into each car.

A husband of a friend, who is a Highway Engineer and meticulous about car safety, refused to let his ex SiL take his DGC, both under 5, out on an access visit because he did not have the legally required car seats in his car (he had no child car seats at all). He certainly didn't offer him the use of the car seats he had, he would probably never have seen them again.

In my DS's case, each parent has their own car seats.

I have had quite a bit of experience with this issue and yes, in theory they should buy their own; but I feel it is better they borrow a correctly sized/fitted car seat than take short cuts and either get a cheap one or a wrong age group one or heaven forbid, not use one at all.

If they want to transport the child in their car, yes they should. I bet they wouldn't like to have to take the seat out and then put it back each visit.

Not in that position but as GPs we have always had child seats fitted in our car in case we have to transport the children.
I think that the onus is on the visiting parent to go prepared and not depend on the other parent taking seats from their car.

I expect it depends on the parent who has the seats being able to say no, which may not be easy.

Not been in that position ninathenana but I would say they should have their own car seats for the children. I know how much of a pain it is taking out and refixing in car seats is.. ok borrow if its just the odd occasion but when its a parent then surely the amount of times its going to be used warrants the purchase.
