Selling drugs at the school gates

I was listening to Radio 4 yesterday and there was an extraordinary programme about S Wales (MCAT: the Scourge of the Valleys) where apparently there is a huge problem with a particular Class B drug (MCAT) which is being widely used instead of alcohol by young people.

It was very sad, but the most shocking thing is the deliberate targeting of primary school children - yes primary school! There were people pushing it over the school fence apparently - children were getting hooked on it and were paying for the drug with sexual favours. It seemed almost unbelievable and, as a school governor, made me think a lot about safeguarding.

It is so very terrible that such unscrupulous people can be out there to prey on such young children.

Sadly this is not a new phenomenon, nor is using children to sell drugs.

My DD is in her early 40s and I remember going to the school after she and her friend where offered sweets laced with drugs at the school playground and they where both just 11 and just gone into big school, hubby along with other dads went up the next playtime and sorted the offender by telling in in no uncertain terms what would happen to him if he was seen there again, the offender was about 18/20yrs at the time.

Yes, sadly this has been going on for years and years.

In our area too.

And ours. My children told me about this 25+ years ago, sadly.

Yes, I've heard of this happening and at secondary school, my girls said 'you always knew who had drugs and how to get hold of them'. The school had a good anti-drugs educational programme too.

Very sad situations.
