Tibetan bowls

My little grandson (6 months old) only has to hear the first strains of "his" lullabies on his mother's iPad, to "assume the position" - he sort of tucks his little chin in like a baby bird - and then he's off, fast asleep. The programme is accompanied by mandala-like repetitive patterns, and he has a look at those fir a few moments as if to say "Okay, I get it, it's bedtime".

Riverwalk I have just let DH listen to both and he almost nodded off too. He has now downloaded both and asks me to thank you for saving him a search. These are perfect. At any given moment, we could be listening to Frank Zappa, Chet Baker or Rachmaninov. Look forward to having these 'floating' through the house.

I went to a concert at the Barbican & a group of Tibetan monks were dancing & chanting in the foyer beforehand. I bought a Tibetan bowl from them - the grandchildren loved playing it.

Nodded off listening to it !!

I've changed my mind Agus having had Buddha Dreamer on for the past hour or so - it gets 'orchestral' and doesn't sound so 'natural', if you get my drift!

Back to the bowls.

Used to have a fabulous Shiatsu 'healer' (near Stamford)- and she used her own antique Tibetan bowl. So wish Alison would have move to Switzerland with us- miss her 'massage'/treatment so much, and her of course.

I preferred Budddha Dreamer given in the link but liked the bowls too riverwalk

DH listens to Indian Music for relaxation but might also be interested in this.

I've just listened to it. I'm afraid all the jangling drives me mad. It's like listening to next doors wind chimes. Glad it helped the patient though.

Lovely, thank you for that link. Amongst the many weird things I've done in my life I once did what was called a Sound Healing course (why do we always feel we have to sound apologetic!). It involved chanting, sounding vowels and listening to bells and gongs. It was very moving and relaxing. At the time I read some books and listened to some cds by a character called Jonathan Goldman and got very interested in the whole business.

I seem to remember there's something called the Tomatis Method which uses sound to stimulate the sensory system and which has some scientific basis and which is known to help children and adults with learning difficulties.

On a slightly different note, one carer played the dawn chorus/bird song on her Iphone to my mother-in-law as she lay dying. I'm sure I could see her relaxing as she heard it. As she had been a country person I'm sure she enjoyed it.

Just leave it on in the background Jane and you'll be totally chilled, but beware, I've had it on for the past hour and it's relaxed me so much that I now have to get a move on and get dressed and go out!

Interesting Riverwalk
I listened to a little of it and realised I was breathing differently - a short breath in and a long breath out, without thinking about it, just doing it automatically. I think that's a basic relaxation technique isn't it?
