Why did I just try to make a call on the tv remote????

hildajenniJ Wed 07-Jan-15 18:59:34

How many times have I tried to start the car with the house keys?
We all do the silliest things sometimes. I made an awfull smell in the kitchen when making the lunch. I put all the veg on the hob, but had not put any water on the cabbage!

Reminds me of that comedy sketch where the bloke was trying to set the scene for a romantic interlude and the remote went haywire - the bed folded down, then up, down then up, the curtains swished open and closed again and again and the lights dimmed and brightened, dimmed and brightened...grin

Oh lord anno, DH's just come back with an all singing, all dancing new smartphone....please don't tell me he can do that with it too! Daughter has set it up and gone back home....... [desperate emoticon]

You were just ahead of your time......

Many a time I've pointed the phone at the TV. Now I've heard that there is an app that allows one to use a smart phone as a TV remote control.

"Mrs. P was trying to FF the adds last night on a live prog."

I've sat impatiently waiting for the ads on a recording as well at times.

pompa Wed 07-Jan-15 17:33:21

"We cannot all be addled surely" That could be a very long thread.

Nelliemoser Wed 07-Jan-15 17:29:10

Been there done that. Pointed the electronic car key at the front door to try and unlock it. Tried to use the phone key pad as a calculator.
We cannot all be addled surely. grin

pompa Wed 07-Jan-15 17:11:42

Mrs. P was trying to FF the adds last night on a live prog. We had recorded it because we couldn't see the first 10 min, soon caught up after a couple of ad breaks and were live again, Mrs. P didn't realise.

Brilliant Crun!

Katek Wed 07-Jan-15 16:53:44

Oh I'm soooo glad I'm not the only one that does these idiotic things!! Was beginning to develop a complex!

Crun grin!

crun Wed 07-Jan-15 16:34:01

Having spent an hour skipping through the adverts on a recorded program, I find myself trying to skip the ads on a live one too. (There's also a fault on my remote: it's got an OK button, but it hasn't got a No it f***ing well isn't OK button.)

I once poured the kettle into the coffee jar instead of the mug, but the occasion when I made myself look the biggest twit was when a woman with an A to Z stopped me in the street and asked directions. I showed her the way on the map: left here, right along there.... etc. etc. She looked puzzled, and then asked me to show her again: left here etc. etc. Then she asked again, and again. By the time I was beginning to think she was daft or something, I noticed that every time I showed her a right turn I was saying left, and left instead of right.

I felt a left idiot.

Just as I thought my marbles had well and truly skedaddled I read this thread and breathed a sigh of relief! Spent an hour looking for remote control and found it in the car.....honestly got no idea how it got there confused- and what the hell made me look in the car anyway!

Ana Wed 07-Jan-15 15:50:27

I've tried to pay for things with my Tesco Club card many times...blush

Crafting Wed 07-Jan-15 15:42:20

Pompa shock shock

Grannyknot Wed 07-Jan-15 15:28:55

We have way too many "electronic tags" these days! I've been known to try and get into buildings using my Oyster card! Plus there was the time I tried to 'swipe your card' my way into a lift blush

pompa Wed 07-Jan-15 15:21:53

Do you realise that you have probably unlocked your car whilst trying to get in your door. ?

Crafting Wed 07-Jan-15 14:52:10

More than one nightowl. I do to too blush

nightowl Wed 07-Jan-15 14:17:34

Thank goodness there's another one Anya grin

Anya Wed 07-Jan-15 14:05:55

Nightowl I do that too grin

nightowl Wed 07-Jan-15 13:50:41

It's standing at the front door pressing my car key fob and wondering why the door doesn't open that gets me .......

harrigran Wed 07-Jan-15 13:17:15

Our old TV remote used to dim the lights, it used to drive us scatty, had to change the dimmer switches for traditional ones.

KatyK Wed 07-Jan-15 12:56:23

I am always rewinding with the remote if I mis-hear something on TV. Sometimes when I am out and about and see something unusual or whatever, it goes through my head 'oh I'll just rewind that' confused

glammanana Wed 07-Jan-15 12:33:58

I went out for the day after picking up remote instead of my mobile, very frosty reception when I came home hmm

ninathenana Wed 07-Jan-15 12:31:13

Mum frequently did the opposite. Pointed the phone at the TV and would get very cross because the "damn thing doesn't work !"
