Ridiculous as research shows so long as not eaten a heavy meal within, I think, 4 hours then a GA is no problem- if in an emergency situation even that is disregarded.
I lost 10lbs when mashed my ankle purely because Nil by Mouth most of the time as decision to operate kept changing until had to be done because circulation compromised.
In between I seemed to be given almost starvation rations as kept missing being given a menu, so presumably got what was left! Craved hot buttered toast......
Not advised way to diet, but pretty effective!

I have decided I may book myself into the hospital I spent in yesterday as a day case for a month or 6 weeks to lose weight.

I was only having a local anaesthetic and no GA so I was allowed to eat and drink normally and I had that in writing. The nursing staff were arguing whether I should be having such a heavy lunch- it being a handful of sweetcorn, one small tomato, a few chopped lettuce leaves, a little grated cheese followed by a raspberry yogurt! For supper I had one thin slice of white bread made into a ham sandwich. I would not mormally have eaten that but I was starving. If that is a heavy lunch, heaven help what a light one is, unless I was being greedy?

Thankfully I could make up for it today as I was meeting up with 14 people for lunch which I had organised at a local restaurant and the food as usual, was delicious.

Oh dear soop, you've certainly taken a battering, just as well perhaps you couldn't actually hear what MacSporran was saying! I so admire the poor men who have to repair fallen lines etc in dreadful weather.

My swinging chair won't survive much more bad weather, the new cover is ripped to shreds and we've resorted tying it to the garden shed to stop it ricocheting around the garden, just hope new shed can stay up!
Haven't had winds like this for years and it's made worse by the woods behind us having been thinned substantially so less of a windbreak. Not that I'm complaining about that, we now have light in the back garden after mid afternoon for the first time since we moved here 18 years ago!

Last night was pretty bad here, but nothing at all like yours. It kept me awake for an hour or so when I went to bed, but today has been warm, sunny and beautiful, sadly enabling me to see the dirt even better.

Tonight however it had better stay calm and dry, because I shall be walking across the village to our first 'knit and natter' event. I have never knitted with other people around me, I do hope I can concentrate! I stopped knitting some year ago because I have arthritic knuckles and knitting made it worse, but they seem to have calmed down lately so I shall have another go. I have always felt bad about not knitting for the GCs, so I am starting off with a little shrug with long sleeves for Gabriella. A simple pattern just in case I really can't manage to count stitches, talk and listen. Heaven only knows what I can make for Luca now though, as he is six and getting choosy. A nice cable hoody pattern would be useful.

Poor soop I find the novelty of using candles wears off pretty quickly!

Regarding lack of domestic skills in dearly beloveds I came home from having baby 1 (my mum brought me home) after 10 days in hospital, to find not so DH had used every plate, dish, pan, cutlery etc we owned, all of which was stacked around the kitchen. He'd also eaten absolutely everything in the freezer and fridge, and all his laundry was chucked on the floor in front of the washing machine.
I very nearly turned round and went right back.

His excuse? 'I was just about to do it'..........

After baby 2 and 7 days in, I returned home to the vinyl flooring 'floating' - he'd washed the floor in a similar manner to the way he swilled down the dairy....

I didn't dare have a third baby!

Thanks for being my messenger, bags, I hope that you are feeling better than you did yesterday. Our power was reconnected about an hour ago. The chaps ( a very fine trio) did stuff around the pole and one climbed to the top and fixed whatever it was that had worked loose in the wind. The team all cheered as power was restored. Apparently there are hundreds of folk all experiencing difficulties. The men were so charming in spite of working outside all day through.

I've missed you lot and have to take time to read your latest messages.

The storm overnight was horrendous. Our beloved bird cherry tree cannot possibly survive another battering from the wind. It is swaying. The paving stones were lifting as MacSporran attempted to tether it with strong rope to a huge block of concrete at the crack of dawn. I do believe that he was talking to it as he did so....

The soops' power is off because of the wind. They are a bit miffed because apparently only their house is affected. That used to happen to us until the cables were put underground instead of their being draped over hills inaccessible in the dark. Hope they are back 'on' v soon.

I can remember the last and I think second time ever I had flu, and coming downstairs after 24 hours (only) for some water and being horrified to survey the wreckage in the kitchen,and worse, to find that DH before going out had shut the dog in the sitting room without letting her out first (yes, a puddle). Cleaned it virtually on my knees, made myself a Lemsip and dragged myself back upstairs but was unable to relax when I got there.

I know what you mean, I am long-sighted so can't see the dirt with them off, which is nearly all the time!

It would appear that I need to reacquaint DBH&Son with the usefulness of bleach. DBH apparently cleaned only one loo, once, while I was ill, and DS said that he spent more time criticising DS's aim than he did cleaning!

Thank god we haven't had any visitors since the New Year. Dead flowers in the vases. Yuck. DS has had to help, which came as a bit of a shock to his system. It was interesting to see how little they did while I wasn't there to give their consciences a nudge.

Now that I feel better, I can look around and see just how much cleaning and sorting and tidying there is still to do after xmas. I found myself rather wishing for a nice peaceful care home where I could just read all day!

Thanks soutra. We took our time over finding him a place. It's in the countryside, very like where he lived when he was a little boy. He had three carers in a day and my two sisters and I stayed overnight. We were not sleeping as Dad has lost all sense of time. It is a relief to know that he is being cared for night and day. I will be the first of us to visit. We'll see what reaction I get on Sunday.

Hilda I hope that that went as well as it sounds. Of course it is hard but there are times when the least worst option is the only one and I am sure a lot of soul searching went into the decision for your Dad to move into the home. I moved my father into a home just 5 months before he died when he panicked and realised he was not coping alone. My one regret was that we hadn't been able to take our time over it, I would have chosen a different one or at the least a nicer room but it was all done in such a rush and, in my case, from 300 miles away. Good luck to him I am it will be a relief to you to know that he is safe and being looked after.

soop, I don't know where my phone was when your text arrived but I missed it and have only just looked. Oh, wait! I changed the noise-making to zero when I went for a nap because I felt nauseous in my chest. Yes, I know that sounds very peckyoolier! It is!! And then I forgot to put the phone back to normal. Hey ho.

Better tea than a bowl of soup (tomato, homemade) that I tipped over mine last week......highly unlikely to recover so forced to buy new one ....

I think I'll just slip in here for an escape from the bonkersness of the world in some other places. I've brought a bowl of wonderful chocolate gloop— a blended mixture of avocado, coconut milk, cocoa and maple syrup, with a little cinnamon. Plenty to go round. And relax
