Anyone like me desperate to take down the Christmas decorations and get back to normal?

annsixty Sun 28-Dec-14 21:32:17

Again up the Sun before Christmas Day and in place until 12th night.
It is only once a year after all.

12th night in our house and I've seen Cadbury's Creme Eggs on sale already!

Why do we have to pre-empt things? People (some people) have had their Christmas trees up since November so no wonder they are sick of them. But what would have been wrong with building up to Christmas during Advent? Perhaps dressing the tree the Sunday before Christmas and then relaxing in the decorated surroundings until the traditional time to take them down -Twelfth Night?
I have seen Hot Cross Buns in Waitrose and frankly I think the world , in the UK at least, has lost the plot. sad

Mine only went up a few days before Christmas but are all fresh greenery and the holly berries are drying up already. I may have to put up a new lot for my birthday party. They can't be done away with until Twelfth Night.

No, they`re not coming down till 12th night, they only went up a week before Christmas, and they make the room look so much brighter. I hate how drab everything looks for the first few hours after they come down.

Family are coming for lunch N Y D they will come down the day after.

goldengirl Sun 28-Dec-14 15:00:46

Roll on 2 January! Mind you we leave some fairy lights in the kitchen to help me with SAD

Apart from a small tree decorated with shells, I didn't put any decs up. Neither did anyone else who lives here. We still had a lovely day and we are still eating the gingerbread house. Perhaps I shall eat the small xmas cake that Minibags made at school some time near the beginning of January. I chose that phrase "near the beginning of January" deliberately because, in cosmic terms, the new year has already begun smile

(no-one else will eat xmas cake; just thought I'd mention that so yous don't think I'm greedy)

Tree and dec's up on first Sunday in Advent and down on 12th Night! Still look fine to me.

jinglbellsfrocks Sun 28-Dec-14 13:30:15

(that emoticon stuff was never going to work, was it? tchhmm)

jinglbellsfrocks Sun 28-Dec-14 13:29:33

No!!! Grandsons leave tomorrow, but Christmas remains. Plenty of enjoyment left in it yet, I would say.! tchsmile

(am determined NOT to get sad about them going --tchsad--)

Brendawymms Sun 28-Dec-14 13:23:34

Xmas tree is back outside, it's a living one, other decorations still around. Saying that there is very little.

Marmight Sun 28-Dec-14 13:17:15

Good heavens no! Christmas is not over until the Twelfth Night. It just wouldn't seem right to remove them now tchshock

sunseeker Sun 28-Dec-14 12:41:11

Only put them up weekend before Christmas, will take them down 12th night.

rockgran Sun 28-Dec-14 12:33:07

Have just had a tidy up and removed the stuff that is too Christmassy. However i like to leave the tree and wreath until New Year - then i cant get rid of stuff fast enough! It suddenly looks sad and tatty in the bright sunlight.

janeainsworth Sun 28-Dec-14 12:30:05

Nooooo! tchshock
We only put ours up a few days before Christmas and they stay firmly in place till Twelfth Night!

Teetime Sun 28-Dec-14 12:07:19

Heavens I would be crawling the walls by then.

felice Sun 28-Dec-14 11:54:37

Mine will come down on the 6th of january, but many people here leave them until the 2nd of february, cannot remember the reason.

Riverwalk Sun 28-Dec-14 11:49:26

Tree, lights & cards will be staying up for the coming week - my grandchildren are arriving today from Somerset for Xmas with grandma tchsmile

Ex-husband is bringing them!

We will all have a lovely family lunch, then it'll be fun out and about with GC for the next five days.

chloe1984 Sun 28-Dec-14 11:07:59

Christmas decorations coming down as we speak will just leave the wreath on the front door . Oh the dust that has been revealed.

Teetime Sun 28-Dec-14 11:04:26

I've taken down the cards (ready to put in the recycle box at Sainsbury)and a few other things may come down by stealth. The plan is to take them down New Years Day but if there is no golf tomorrow I may need a frenetic activity to replace it before the weigh in at Slimming World tomorrow night. we are having our Christmas turkey dinner today so I suppose I should leave them up for that so I'm doing other housework instead. would love to get it all down this afternoon though.

henetha Sun 28-Dec-14 11:00:46

I didn't put any up either. First time ever. Mixed reasons.

Agus Sun 28-Dec-14 11:00:05

I only put them up last Tuesday but they are coming down tomorrow. grin

Liz46 Sun 28-Dec-14 10:58:54

I didn't bother to put any up. I would have done if the gc were coming here but we went to their house for Christmas. I did blu tak the cards to the doors but they will be coming down when my eldest daughter goes home tomorrow.

merlotgran Sun 28-Dec-14 10:48:09

We don't put ours up early so they still look OK. I usually take them down NY Day.
