Taken the decs down yet?

I always pot up some indoor bulbs for this time of year. Now the decorations are down they are replaced with hydrangeas in full bloom already and a few amaryllis just about to bloom. Puts me in a Spring mood.

That really sounds a long time to me, house clean and kitchen spotless at last!
DH kindly blinking well bought back 3 boxes of 12 mince pies from village shop ' because they were only £1 a box'! So what....?!

What if some of the needles get stuck in the duvet cover and stab you in your bed?

Tip seen on Twitter - throw a duvet cover over tree before taking outside. Needles are then contained!
Also on Twitter Rev. Richard Coles says that shiny decorations should come down on twelfth night but greenery should remain until 2nd Feb. I know our local vicarage keeps the Christmas lights on until Candlemass!

KatyK here is some for you this new year.

Just finished taking them all down, including the lights on the large Norway spruce out in the garden. The worst bit is putting them all away in my dog leg, goes on until the earth's core pantry, but whilst I was burrowing away I did take the opportunity to read the gas and electric meters. Now relaxing with a nice glass of red wine, waiting for my dinner to cook.

Decorations all taken down. Just the Christmas tree to be taken outside. It's too big for me to manage. I left them up longer than usual as DD and SiL and four DGC have been visiting. They went home this morning, the children have to go back to school tomorrow.

worst year ever not every

I always leave them until the traditional time as I have always felt it was unlucky not to. 2014 was the worst year every so it certainly didn't work last year. I may take the decs down tonight.

Lovely to see all the spring bulbs coming up in the garden and have just booked a Premier Inn stay in Altringham so we can go to the Tatton Park Flower Show in comfort. Spring is just around the corner.

Still holding on to tradition- can't wait for tomorrow, which we've set aside to do the job. Fortunately, we can make a bee line for the window for the tree, backwards- and needles will be limited to parquet in one room.

Just taken all down except the tree which just has the fairy lights left on it. Also lights on our balcony still - I shall really miss them. goldengirl I am hoping to do lots of de-cluttering too. A fresh start to the year. And I am going to buy some little pots of flowering daffodils from supermarket to bring spring a bit nearer!
We are hoping to have bathroom completely re-vamped so browsing Pinterest and web for ideas. It is very small, so not much scope really. Want a walk in shower instead of a bath (we have another bathroom with bath).
appygran it is difficult isn't it when the years bring changes. We used to have lovely family New Year's Eve parties at my parents when our children were young. Maybe in 5 years time we will be the hosts for our grandchildren to have happy memories. You enjoy being spoilt at your children's homes now but still enjoy your happy memories.

I took the decs down last night and was surprised at how sad and nostalgic I felt. I did wonder whether it had been worth putting up a big tree just for the two of us as very little happened at our house this year. Both adult children now have families of their own and understandably wanted to spend Christmas at home. We were included and had a lovely Christmas Day and Boxing Day as well as dinners and lunches out with other friends and family during the festive season, so we did have a very enjoyable time. I think it was just remembering when our house was the centre of Christmas and New Year activities and I was rushed off my feet catering for everyone. On the other hand it was a lot easier - Ah but I did enjoy the hustle and bustle of it.

Oh well another life change it embrace.

All down and away. Rooms cleaned and everyday lights and ornaments in new places. I have thrown stuff away and feel lighter somehow!

I went against my earlier posting and many previous years and took them down yesterday and they are all in the loft space. I am getting too old to conform I think. DH isn't any help now so it is a case of when I feel like it.

Took them down today! Hoorah! Let there be light. DH insists on having the christmas tree is in front of the window and our sitting room has been very gloomy, ditto me!

just took them down now as DD goes back to her home in France early flight to Geneva sunday morning.

In the throes of taking things down, hall (small not grand) looks very bare without all the greenery. All this is accompanied by washing and drying bedding, cleaning loos and diddling up leftovers from the 3rd roast turkey. I'm back in my own bed too after 2 whole weeks out of it .

All down, normality resumed. (or as normal as it ever is)

It was good to see kids over Christmas, but it's so good to be back in my own chair & bed. Fed up with waking up to go to the toilet and having to think which way it was (pee'd in the wardrobe twice)

Not yet. I wanted to get them down as soon as we got home from our New Year stay with friends, but I was stuck with a nasty bout of gastroenteritis on New Year's Day, had to make a dash for home in the car sitting on towels and binliners and am still feeling yucky No energy to do anything, though I have removed the drooping greenery and might feel up to doing more later this evening.
Once Christmas is over, I'm done with decs - can't wait to be shot of them, but I'll have to be patient this year!
