Nephew's funeral - a strange and moving experience! [just need to say it]

Thank you all for reading, typing it out made a bit more sense of the whole thing. I love the fact that GN allowed me to do that and that I got support.

I was not anticipating 'enjoying' the funeral and we went in trepidation really.

It's been very peculiar for all sorts of reasons. We think he would have been diagnosed as being on the autistic spectrum at a more enlightened school and in more enlightened times.

I had to talk his mother into going to see him in what turned out to be his last hospital stay as she had been so hurt by his behaviour although she had been happy to see him at her home. After the funeral BiL (his father) said that he remained a mystery to him but he was visibly moved by all the tributes and it showed sides of other family members that we might not have seen otherwise.

A really odd but uplifting time!

It is good that he finally brought the family together around him.

I went to the funeral of a very dear racing friend a few years ago, and found out so much about him that I didn't know beforehand. Came away feeling proud and privileged to have known him. Your nephew sounds like an exceptional person kitty; it's good that there was a reconciliation with his family.

How lovely for his close family that at the end he was with them. For him to have died abroad and still estranged would have been so sad, but there is a real sense of his family coming together at the end. Moving.

I know we dread them but a good funeral can bring great comfort to the living. His family sound wonderful.

Perhaps he knew he could do all the things he did because he had that sort of family who would rally round him.

How sad in all respects

What a shame he didn't share more of his life with his obviously very loving family. It sounds as though his funeral was a real celebration of his life
