Where's our Saltire?

Perhaps I am wrong but I think I remember emoticons for St David's Day and St George's day. Today is St Andrew's Day, so why no saltire?

Meanwhile, best St Andrew's Day wishes to my fellow Scots and especially my fellow St Andreans.

Agreed, Agus. I certainly didn't mean this thread to be a cause for political dispute - just felt a bit left out, considering that other patron saints were acknowledged.

Agus Sun 30-Nov-14 17:55:43

As this is not a political thread and we are not discussing Alex Salmond, may I remind you papaoscar you are free to start your own thread about 'you Scots'

Gulf Stream , of course. X

Happy St Andrews day, a little late, but I've been travelling North to Scotland. M6 was glorious, beautiful sunshine throughout Lancashire and Cumberland. When we arrived it was 11 degrees, thanks to the gulf street. X

Papa, can you give it a rest for a wee while and just let us Scots celebrate St Andrews day in peace !!!!

rosequartz Sun 30-Nov-14 17:31:00

That's why I thought the flowers were a good idea - no squabbling over flags grin

papaoscar Sun 30-Nov-14 17:10:31

As far as I'm concerned the Union flag represents all constituent parts of the UK so we don't need any other drapeaux flying over Downing Street. What you Scots do in your own garden is up to you. Incidentally, I bumped into Alec Salmond yesterday and have to say that if I were Scottish I would worry about him. He doesn't seem to realise that he lost the referendum and is no longer leader if the SNP. On the other hand perhaps it was a wise move of Nicola's to encourage him and his ramblings to come south, but I wonder if she'll ever let him back in to Caledonia?

Thank you ana, I knew there was a dragon in there somewhere.
He gets everywhere, he must have jumped off the Welsh flag for a few days.

Perhaps there should be a thistle emoticon today?
A rose for St George and a shamrock for St Patrick. Just to keep things consistent.

Ana Sun 30-Nov-14 16:10:37

It was a daffodil, rosequartz.

St George got the dragon! grin

rosequartz Sun 30-Nov-14 15:37:36

Perhaps some bagpipes? As far as I remember we had a dragon for St David's Day (or was it a leek?).

Happy St Andrew's Day to all Scots, wherever you are.

Agus Sun 30-Nov-14 14:58:05

Signed smile

Well said Agus and Annodomini. Not much to ask for on our Patron Saints Day.

annodomini Sun 30-Nov-14 14:51:20

Memo to GNHQ for 30th November 2015. There are many Scots Grans, resident and non-resident, who would appreciate acknowledgement of their patron saint in future. Please...

Agus Sun 30-Nov-14 14:43:57

And it was used to wipe away an imaginary tear! Facts please.

As London is the capital of the UK, it is entirely appropriate that the flags of all UK countries are flown on their saints day.

Anya Sun 30-Nov-14 14:24:57

It was a handkerchief not a flag!

papaoscar Sun 30-Nov-14 13:51:07

PS: I was less than impressed to see Alec Salmond blowing his nose on the English flag the other day. Anybody who shows that degree of contempt for a neighbour's flag is beneath contempt as far as I'm concerned, t'wasn't funny.

papaoscar Sun 30-Nov-14 13:46:29

Good luck to Scotland on St. Andrew's Day. I note that the Saltire is flying over 10, Downing Street, and as an Englishman I have to ask - why? The only flag that should fly there is the Union flag. Yet another Cameron faux-pas!

Soutra Sun 30-Nov-14 13:34:52

Well I just think it is racial discrimination angry
Even a tam o'shanter would have done sad

Agus Sun 30-Nov-14 13:17:01

So, it appears we have waited in vain for an acknowledgement this year too sad

Scooter58 Sun 30-Nov-14 13:14:33

Well said Elegran

Scooter58 Sun 30-Nov-14 13:13:49

Happy St Andrews Day to all my fellow proud Scots, fly the flag, fly the flag,Scottish and Proud.smile

annodomini Sun 30-Nov-14 12:58:48

Hear, hear, Elegran - it always has been and always will be.

Elegran Sun 30-Nov-14 11:52:04

The Saltire is bigger than a single party or policy, as is the cross of St George.

Mishap Sun 30-Nov-14 11:47:35

It's on the google home page.
