Most important rule: NEVER EVER log into any of your financial accounts from a link in an email.
Having said that, I recently received a completely convincing official-looking email from PayPal informing me that they had upped my trading limit and to log on to the website to confirm (so in other words, no link in the email, it directed me to the PayPal website). Because I have not used PayPal for a while, I wondered - why would they up my limit out of the blue? So I forwarded the email on to their fraud department, with an apology in case it was genuine, and lo and behold got a very friendly email back to thank me and to confirm that it was indeed an attempt at fraud.
