I've given up on trying to post pictures on GN!

Sorry. I cannot include the images that I wish to share. Something must be wrong. I have reduced the pixels and was able to add the same pics to my Facebook page. Steam is coming out my ears.

Gransnet started taking over my life over 3 years ago, onmyown! It really is very addictive and I would miss it so much if it wasn't there. I don't always post, but so enjoy reading and keeping up with lots of the threads.
Keep an eye on when there may be meet ups? I know that perhaps it might be a bit of an overwhelming thought to actually meet with a bunch of people to whom you've only chatted sporadically on here, but if you can have a wee look to see who may live near you, you could perhaps have a coffee one morning with one of them? A bit like thatbags and soop the other day? I've made some lovely, lovely friends on here, and we've had lots of 'gatherings'!

A very warm welcome to onmyown...we hope to enjoy more of your company. This is a place for gentle folk. We are here for each other. Without this lot I would be a lonely lady.

Welcome vegasmags A lovely lady who lives in the village went through something similar to your experience. She would attempt to cover her mouth when she met anyone. Honest to goodness, she is now absolutely fine with her dentures and, what's more, she looks most attractive because they enhance her bone structure. Keep patient. In the meantime, keep coming into the kitchen.

bags's carrot cake was delicious. Far superior to even M&S's. The butter cream topping laced with orange peel made the eating of it all too easy. Mind you, we've still a portion each for later. I've hidden it on a high shelf. Why? Because I would rather not be tempted to slice off slivers throughout the afternoon. Thanks, dear pal.

kitty Why are we waiting! You know very well that we're your true friends. I promise that my share of the windfall will not change me or my life. Cannot speak for the others, mind.

Nellie that kitchen of yours should look spectacular in time for Christmas. Take a photo when it's finished.

I'm about to try to include another image of bags and me. The system seems awfully slow, and yesterday's attempts reduced me to shouting unladylike things at the computer.

Vegasmags -feeling for you, yes its good to moan. I've had trouble with my teeth and bad treatment with NHS (I finally found a private dentist who was good) - they are an important part of the face you present to the world. Hope things get better soon. Keep posting. Hope the red wine keeps the saliva at bay (or you stop noticing it!).

I've booked to do a river and coach tour in Lisbon, as to Porto! I always tour the lodges!

My lions head was very good! Waitrose do a good job on quick orders! But I do wish I didn't have to arm wrestle the pesky beast myself!
I don't mind the teeth at one end so much, it's the mess at the other I find difficult, also my local vultures seagulls take a long time to dispose of the residue!

There is not a Charles in my family but if I go knocking on a few doors, I am sure that I will find one locally. That will have to do. £10,000 or a tad more would be no problem.

galen, I thoroughly endorse dusty's recommendation of The Monastery dos Jeronimos. I spent a couple of days in Lisbon with a Ramblers group and this wonderful monastery was one of the highlights. The pillars are fabulous and reflect the maritime history of Portugal. I had expected it to be dark and forbidding but quite the contrary.

vagasmags I had my two top front teeth crowned years ago. They felt HUGE. I could hardly close my mouth over them and felt (and looked I thought) like Buggs Bunny. I had to consciously force my top lip over them to shut my mouth and I felt ridiculous. Now I don't even think about it. Hope you get used to them soon, in the meantime, keep slurping

vegas; it takes our bodies quite a while to adapt to something new, especially in our mouth. I know when I had some dental work done at one time I was constantly aware of that tooth and wouldn't eat with that side of my mouth for ages. I'd like to think that, in a few weeks time you'll be feeling a lot better .

We have just been out for a Fayre and Square meal at a local pub. Two meals for ten pounds. Vegetarian Dorritos and very tasty they were too.
This outing extravagance in Mr Moser's eyes, is the result of the final moves in my kitchen saga.

The floor men came this morning to screed the kitchen floor before doing the new tiling on Monday. We were warned off going in there for the rest of the day.
I now the freezer and microwave in the living room along with a broom cupboard and the kitchen table and chairs.

The dining room has a collection of cutlery crockery, the fridge and tea making equipment.
The dishwasher and the washing machine are now blocking the way into the downstairs cloak room.
I have had enough of this now. I want my kitchen back.

vegasmags what a shame, that sounds so uncomfortable.

I don't often pop into the kitchen and I know many of you are struggling with health problems of your own or those of your loved ones, but I could really do with a bit of tea and sympathy tonight. I had all my remaining natural teeth - all 17 of them, long story - extracted at the age of 16 so I have worn false teeth for over 50 years. Of course, this means I have suffered a great deal of bone loss over the years, as well as associated problems. I plucked up the courage to have a new set made and fitted, as my old ones were over 15 years old, by a clinical dental technician who specialises in cosmetic dentures with lip and face support. I had the final fitting - last of 5 - on Monday and I do know from experience that patience and perseverance are the order of the day. They look great and very natural but boy are they driving me mad. I also know that it's best to wait about 4 weeks before having any slight adjustments made, but they are so big compared to the previous ones that I feel I have a mouth full of stones. My mouth is constantly flooded with saliva as my poor old body struggles to adapt. My jaw is aching constantly as my aging facial muscles learn to accommodate them. I hope you don't mind me having a moan, but it feels good to get that off my chest.

kitty I cannot begin to tell you how very chuffed I am to learn that you will be sharing your windfall. You are such a generous Kitchener. I suggest that us lot form a disorderly queue and wait our turn for the hand-out...after, that is, we've each coughed up a hefty deposit for your account in Timbuktu (or some such place). I'm not sure what the rules are, but I bags we all learn them as we go along. Funny how many of us are convinced that we're distant cousins of that chap Charles. Just a few thousand would go a long way towards the canary yellow Mini Cooper that I've my heart set on. Do keep us updated. I shall not get much sleep just thinking of the best way to spend my share.

Stop it, Galen...you know darn well that Tesco need at least a years notice in order to ship a lion's head to your nearest branch. Methinks you're havin' us lot on. Keep up the good work.

I had such a lovely lunch with bags. We are very alike (in some respects)...we're both a trifle "batty", in the nicest possible way...'though she's much younger, far slimmer and prettier and most definitely more brainy. Otherwise, as I say, we've lots in common. Bags has made us some gorgeous carrot cake. As I can only leave a virtual slice in our kitchen, the rest will have to be scoffed as a treat tonight. I should hate it to "go off." We took a few photos. I've only been able to upload one on G.N. On F.B. I was more successful. I promise to try harder tomorrow.

So much has happened in the kitchen in my absence. I shall have more time to read all your messages in the morning. A big black cat is showing signs of impatience. Rory is mewing and making a fuss of me...and a very patient Tortoiseshell kitten is staring wide-eyed towards the kitchen window.

Lisbon is a lovely city, very friendly. Are you able to do any sight seeing?
The Monastery dos Jeronimos is beautiful and says that it is disabled accessible. It certainly has no steps outside it.
I hardly know Porto, apart from severable interesting hours spent exploring the port lodges.

Flute's a bit on the mystical side as well.

Well, I've got the red cooked lamb on in the slow cooker. Better go and catch the lion for the lions head casserole. The lemon chicken (Ken Hon version) is a do at the last minute job.

Galen and Baubles Carmen and La Boheme are my favourite operas as well. Lovely music and a real stories unlike some operas that get a bit mystical. (Sorry Wagner.)

I have an old video of Placido Domingo and ulia Migenes's 1984 film of Carmen. It's fantastic good acting and good singing.

I still have a video recorder but it requires fiddling about with the scart cables to get it working.
